6-10-23 I took 3 of my nieces/nephews to the Nevada County Railroad Museum to ride the railbus (10:40am departure). They were so excited to ride the train it was scheduled to be a 15 min train ride from the museum to the Northern Queen where we would get off. Apx. 3 min into the ride my 2 y/o niece began to cry and said she was "scared", I did my best to console her and distract her but she was still scared and crying. The conductor of the train turned around and told me to "shut her up". I apologized to him and others on the train who said it was fine, I was shocked by the train operator's behavior. Then even more shocked when 5 min later (halfway through the 15 min ride) the train operator stopped the train and kicked me and the 3 young kids off the train (6, 4, & 2 y/o). Despite living here since 1975 I was unsure of the best route to walk with 3 kids that were just kicked off the train. The trail is overgrown and not well-marked. My heart is rattled! Who treats children this way? Especially when you have such an opportunity to get the next generation excited about train history. The Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad Museum is funded by donations, and although they were unable to return our donation I want to share my experience with this community in case you were thinking of donating to this organization that treated these...
Read moreWhat a wonderful little museum! The docents are extremely knowledgeable and passionate. We arrived late so the last train ride was full, something we were prepared for since it is first come, first serve. But the staff were so apologetic and accommodating that any disappointment (which was completely on us for bad planning) was rectified two fold! We were given a fascinating guided tour by the sweetest gentleman. Since it was towards the end of the day, our toddler was over it but every volunteer was so friendly and helpful throughout his little tantrums.
We already have plans to go back next weekend, with a rested toddler 😁
Thank you all for a...
Read moreWhat a great place! If you can get reservations for the train ride when you plan to visit I would highly recommend it. It was not only a great train ride, but the stories and information that went along with it made it a one-of-a-kind experience. Both humorous and informational, the train guides made the ride entertaining and educational for adults and children alike. The restored train cars back at the museum were amazing. The restoration process that they go through is more detailed than anything I've ever seen. True craftsmanship at work by a volunteer force of amazing individuals. This place...
