My husband and I got married at Merrick Art Gallery on August 31, 2025! We rented the entire gallery for an extremely reasonable price, and since Merrick operates as a gallery first and a venue second, there weren't any vendor restrictions. This made our wedding day nearly fully customizable and completely perfect!
From the caterer to the bartender, to table & chair rentals, to the use of the entire gallery, we were able to pick and choose every single aspect of our day. We were allowed to decide where the ceremony, reception, and dancing would be held, and the bridesmaids and I were permitted to use the "art room" as our space to get ready in.
We held our ceremony in the expansive gallery on the second floor. With a working elevator, there was no issue for our elderly guests or members of our wedding party with mobility issues to get up to the ceremony or back down to the reception. It was such a striking room to hold our ceremony in, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. They also supplied 150 chairs for the ceremony free of charge! We held the reception in the garden area outside, and it was even larger than it looked. There was plenty of room for our 165 guests and the head table. We did our first dance and cake cutting on the patio area so everyone in the garden could see it. We strung bistro/fairy lights in the garden for an added touch of magic and atmosphere, and it was such a classy addition to an already classy area.
The reception continued into the "champagne room" where our DJ and caterer set up their respective stations. The only issue with this room is that the preexisting tables in the room are unable to be moved out of the room. They are really REALLY nice tables, but too large to fit through the doorways. We made do by stacking some on top of one another and putting the DJ booth in front of them, to ensure guest safety and hide the tables. It worked perfectly.
For smaller weddings and events in that room, the tables and chairs are included in the rental cost. The table & chair "issue" was no fault of Merrick, and more so because of our large wedding.
Working with Michelle, the gallery curator, was a delight. Nearly every request we had was met, worked out, or understood. She responded in a timely fashion to emails and phone calls, and accommodated every need before the wedding. Every concern was rapidly addressed at every turn, and we always felt that Michelle was working hard to ensure we had a perfect day.
Though this gallery ABSOLUTELY deserves my 5-star review for accommodating us and for its beauty in curation, I do want to make sure this review is honest.
We did hit several roadblocks with the day-of coordinator. She made comments behind my back on the day that I was the most unorganized and least prepared bride she'd ever met, that this was the most unorganized wedding she'd ever seen, and several other not-so-nice things. To be clear, I had minute-by-minute binders that detailed every moment of the day. Many times, it was the vendors that were late, not me being unorganized. The icing on the cake was when she demanded my dad help move pallets with his truck, literally minutes before I was to walk down the aisle.
I'm not a "bridezilla," I promise. I am mostly appreciative for all of the "behind the scenes" work she did to make the day run beautifully. She helped greatly with setup and even more with teardown. I'm so thankful for her help in so many aspects of the day. I understood that her job was to protect the gallery and the art, and she did a great job at that. She was mostly fine to work with, but there were a few things I felt I needed to address.
All of this being said, Merrick Art Gallery gave me the wedding of my DREAMS. I couldn't have asked for a better place, nicer staff, or more flexibility with vendors. If I needed that, they probably would have tried their best to accommodate. Thank you Michelle, thank you Merrick! I'm so proud of the event we threw and I'm SO HAPPY to be married to the love of my life!! You all are...

Read moreAmazing treasure! A beautiful and varied collection of oil paintings nestled in a re-purposed train station that I wouldn’t have expected to find in our locale. They have free admission and a friendly staff! My only complaint is that we’ve attempted to visit several times and they were closed despite us arriving during published hours of opening, so a call-ahead might...
