Updates: 10/2020 ACC Brooklyn tracked me down and decided to personally e-mail me regarding my original review below. Basically, they told me that I could have had two options rather than writing a negative google review.
Option 1: Surrender the cat at Brooklyn ACC = Euthanization (which they usually do to animals with serious medical needs) Option 2: Respond to their e-mail instead of writing a google review because writing a google review would not help me in a situation like this.
For some reasons, they believed that I wrote a google review because it would feel better. They also thought that I did it because I could not get their financial assistance. I am speechless.I am entitled to write a honest review based on my experience. I did it because exchanging the e-mails with them any further would not solve anything or help anyone anyway. Or they would simply ignore me. And I would like to emphasize that It was MORE about how unethical and cold their responses were when someone vulnerable and inexperienced desperately needed their guidance, and it was LESS about refusal of the financial assistance. I cannot forget what they told me after finally trapping the cat. "Your case does not fit our criteria. You emailed us about the injury back in January and at this point whatever injury the cat is already healed. I would guess that since it took so long for you to trap him, he is doing just fine on his own. I would advise letting him go back out" I do not think many people would want to continue seeking for any help or guidance after seeing the response like this.
They re-traumatized me by taking me back to the bad experience with them. In the latest response, they said "It would have been better to respond to us(than writing a review) so we understood the situation more fully and could work things out with you in real time". ...What could they haveI done??? They already refused to help us because we took so long, and only way that could have worked out was "surrender" which means "euthanization". NO. Nothing would have worked out with them anyway. I only shared my experience and honest review. I do not understand why they had to personally revisit and tell me that I should have done it differently from writing a google review..
Original Review: Jessica from action team at this facility was not interested in whether the rescue cat would survive or not. And she literally refused to believe what the rescuers told her about the poor condition of the cat. He was on the street, hurt and sick for a long time and needed medical help. Initially, she told us that ACC would provide a medical assistance as long as we could catch the cat. It took us a while to catch this sick cat due to human obstacle on the busy street as well as the pandemic. When we finally got him and reached out to Jessica for medical examination, she basically told us that she believed that he was already healed and fine because he survived until now. And ACC would not provide the medical examination. She also emphasized that we took "so long" to catch him that means he would be just fine on his own. We even sent her a few photos that clearly showed there was something wrong with his condition, potentially paralyzed or having tumor, but it was ignored. 1 week later, the cat ended up dying from the complication. Her observation and decision on this case were based on nothing. Her theory is same thing as if a patient with cancer survived for 6 months that means she/he is already healed. I am truly disappointed with her heartless response. From now on, I will never want to interact with these people who literally don't care about animals in need. Also, I would never bring any animals that need medical attention to ACC because they will immediately euthanize them. I believe people who work at ACC are generally animal lovers. However, I wish they could have had empathy for "all animals equally", not just healthy ones. I am shocked to learn that inequality by people exists at the place that is supposed to care for...

I went to this Brooklyn animal care and control center/shelter today. Located at 2336 Linden Blvd, Brooklyn, Ny, 11208. Many problems is all i encountered and saw. On their Brooklyn website, they had a cat listed and available for adoption. I emailed about this cat two days ago. I then received an email response saying i would need to come in to see and interact with the cat, and that cats are available first come first serve. I was finally off work and came today, then they said the cat was "placed" which means going to another shelter-like setting. And i was told the cat was still there. Then i said, can i at least see the cat? The Answer was
No. Then they said the cat had gotten sick and needed care and that it's just not available. Sick in two days? Hmm. Okay. All the other cats still listed on the website. This is the second time something like this happened to me. I inquire about a cat listed as available for adoption. Come to see, and maybe adopt it. Ready to give a cat a home. Go to see the cat and it's not available or gone. Anyway also, from my observation, many of the cats at this Brooklyn shelter look somewhat irritated, noticeable eye irritations or problems, audible respiratory problems that you can hear if you listen, noticeable fur looking sketchy. Also it smelled
bad throughout the Brooklyn shelter. Very smelly, past normal. Like as if the animal cages aren't cleaned properly or enough. Most the animals at this location, including the dogs seemed agitated or irritated. One dog, all i did was quietly, calmly, and slowly walk past his cage and i glanced at him briefly and he started growling and barking crazy. Never had that happen to me before. When i visited the Manhattan location, none of the dogs acted like that. There was a smell at the Manhattan location but much more low level and regular, as expected. The Manhattan ACC location is way better kept, much more cleaner and normal smelling, and
the animals look much healthier. At the Brooklyn shelter, it just seems like the cats are not being properly cared for and looked after in my opinion. I feel sorry for the majority of the animals there. Some of them had noticeable breathing problems that you could hear as you passed their cages. Sad. I told them i presently own a cat, and was looking for it a companion because my cat seems lonely sometimes. And i was also told i can only have one cat since i live in nycha. A nycha rule. And they said they follow nycha rules. So basically if i move out of nycha, maybe to somewhere with higher rent where-as i can't hardly afford to give a
animal a home, that is better, and more suitable and ideal i guess. Hmm. okay. While i was at the Brooklyn animal care and control center, i inquired about 3 more individual cats while i was there. Two were strays that had not been neutered yet and so i couldn't adopt them yet and one which was a surrendered by owner cat which was neutered/spayed, i had interest in that one but they said it was placed, which in some cases means going somewhere else (another shelter) to be displayed for adoption again. And i was told, once a animal is placed, you can't adopt it. Even though, hey... here i am wanting to adopt the cat here and now.
Money ready as well for the adoption fee. But no. Can't get a cat that was placed. Even though i would have adopted and took a cat home same day (today) if i could have, and showed the cat a clean apartment, fresh food and water and a soft cat bed; all of which i have. But nope, i left the animal shelter with nothing today, zero. These animal shelters have some stupid rules and stupid policies in my...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I are from MA but were in NYC for the day and came in to look at bunnies. We have one already from a new hope rescue and wanted a second one. Found one and got approved, met her and she was adorable, totally fell in love with her but it was towards closing and I couldn't adopt her that day. Drove 4 hours to go get her the next day, only to be told we couldn't adopt her without bringing my current rabbit in for a "speed date". Not only did they not tell us this was required upon approving us the first time, but they had their rabbit guru "talk" to us in which she just hammered everything thay can go wrong with having two rabbits and potentially bonding them, (ignoring us telling her that we in fact are pretty rabbit savvy and have done a lot of research on the topic) in the most arrogent, unhelpful tone. Any solution we offered to an issue she had, she either ignored or disputed.
Her: Bunnies take up a lot of time. Especially bonding them. Me: thats fine! I'm home all day and have a lot of time. Her: don't introduce two rabbits wrong, or you can have them get abscesses from bites. Thats why we prefer you bring your bunny here so we can bond them for you. proceeds to show us a rabbit that got attacked by another and had to get surgery We don't usually trust people to bond unless they've done it before. Us: sorry, our rabbit is too far to bring here and back, and we don't have a lot of rescues that have small pets in our area, plus we really like this specific one. Ive done a lot of research and my best friend has a bunny who has came over and socialized with mine before just fine so i have an idea on introducing them. Her: don't do that, you shouldnt introduce rabbits unless you want them to bond.Oh and theres a lot of bad information out there on bonding so. But yeah don't do that again with your friends rabbit. Just don't. Us: We got preapproved to adopt yesterday, and the manhatten one approved us a few months back, we really wanted to adopt this one from here considering we drove all this way? You guys never told us we HAD to bring our rabbit in. Her: yeah. They used to just give bunnies to people. Us: this was in January. Her: yeah. Well. I can reccommend you to some places near you.
We told her we weren't afraid of keeping them separate if needed, but she basically said that was pointless because then they would both be lonely. Ok, but you would have adopted her to me if i didn't already have a rabbit? In which case she would have been alone? What business is it of theirs to dictate whether or not we HAVE to bond a rabbit? Considering the Brooklyn ACC is overflowing with them, you'd think they'd act like they actually want their rabbits to get adopted, especially by people with ample time & resources.. dissappointed in the ACC. The fact that it was far easier for me to get a rabbit from a legit 501c3 rescue than HERE is insane. We had wanted to adopt from the brooklyn ACC due to how much selection they have and to potentially save an animal (not sure if they euthanize rabbits here). We had visited the Manhatten ACC prior and the staff was far kinder & more sensible. If we do adopt another rabbit, it will...
