I can't understand the recent negative review of Big Bird's, I can only speak from my personal experience over the last 4 years which has been the exact opposite.
Both my son an daughter have attended this preschool and we have had nothing short of a phenomenal time here. My son started in Pre-K 3 with Ms. Kristen and Ms. Laurie and Ms. Laurie identified on DAY 1 that he loved drums/music and science. Being a brand new school, he naturally had some anxiety and on day 2 clung to my leg in a mess of tears and fear of the unknown. I will never forget how Ms. Laurie instantly knew to exactly how to calm him down and told him he could be first to play the drums. He let go and marched into the room while I watched in amazement and gratitude. On to Pre-K 4 with Ms. Judy/Juliana, he was so over prepared in this class for Kindergarten that the first few months were "boring" because it was simply a review of what he already knew. AGAIN Ms. Judy identified right away that he had some difficulty with fine motor skills and recommended tools and activities we could do at home to help. Shortly, he was writing his own name and so proud of himself.
My daughter began with Ms. Maria who quickly became like a second mother to her. They have such a special relationship that she continues to check in on her a year later to make sure she is thriving and happy. She is currently in Pre K 3 with Ms. Santoro/Ms. Gigi who are caring, loving and incredible teachers. Within a month, she was potty trained and after the year of being in her class is writing her own name, knows the alphabet, numbers, shapes and starting to read through rhymes they repeat daily. She is never made to feel ashamed of her sensitivity to loud noises, costumes or new visitors (such as Santa or the Easter bunny during special celebrations) but instead I am notified in advance of what could potentially be fearful for her and offered alternatives to make her comfortable.
Also the office...any time I have a question, concern, or comment, my call is answered on the first or second ring and addressed immediately by Ms. Courtney and/or Ms. Linda.
I can not imagine what more you could ask for in a day care or preschool and if you are looking for a school that is honest about the services they provide as well as to celebrate your child for their individuality and talents this school will be a perfect fit.
As a bonus, lunches are catered through Barios with child friendly options each day like pasta with meatballs or chicken tenders with fruits/vegetables.
I have never posted a review on Google but felt compelled to in this instance because I find it unfair that this business has been...
Read moreOne of the best classes for 3k in Staten Island. My daughters and nieces all attended Mrs. Santoro’s 3K class and currently my youngest daughter is in her class. She is a great teacher, she has a beautiful heart and she loves all the kids equally and very professional with the parents. When my daughter started school in September, exactly her first 3 weeks of school, that was her first time leaving me and she used to cry everyday. She was afraid of everyone. Mrs. Santoro was so patient with her, she gave her all the love and treated her like her own daughter. My daughter didn’t trust anyone in the school except Mrs. Santoro. She didn’t go out for her lunch just to be in the classroom with my daughter. My daughter used to sit with her and watch her eat. In the beginning of the year my daughter refused to eat or use the bathroom in the school, but finally Mrs. Santoro found the way and now my daughter eats all her lunch and uses the bathroom comfortably everyday. From my experience Mrs. Santoro is an amazing teacher with a beautiful heart. My daughter is 3 years old right now and she knows how to read and write all her letters and numbers . She also knows how to write her first and last name and her coloring is beautiful. My family and I love Big Birds and appreciate all the work the staff and Mrs. Santoro provided for...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would! DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! All they care about is having an easy day and collecting a paycheck. I know my child is rambunctious and acts out and you would think teachers having done this for so many years would know how to handle a child like this, choosing to deal with 3 year olds you will get all kinds. Instead what I was told was I should cut my daughters day to half days or that 5 days was too much, and mind you they said this on the very first full day and again on the 2nd day of school, absolutely no time to give it a try and for her to adjust. Didn't even bother to give me the time of day when I asked for suggestions the response I received was I cant I have 15 kids...WHAT???? I was dismissed any time I tried to explain something or ask questions the teacher just couldn't be bothered with me or my child. I don't like the way I was treated and I don't know how she is treated all day long. Anyone who ever asks me about this place I will simply tell them DONT LOOK FOR ANOTHER SCHOOL! I can't believe the horrible mistake I made enrolling her here. Shame on all of them b c apparently I am not the first parent to complain about these things. Shame on them for treating parents and...
