If you ever find yourself marooned in Staten Island land of forgotten strip malls and rogue pizza parlors and think, “There’s nothing good to eat out here,” punch yourself in the face and then head straight to Sandwich and a Pickle. These folks didn’t just win Best Pastrami Sandwich in Staten Island they earned it. This isn’t some limp, delicounter afterthought. This is pastrami with purpose hand cut, fall apart tender, edged in black pepper and love, stacked like it’s still 1986 and no one’s heard of cholesterol. One bite and you’re somewhere between a Lower East Side Jewish deli and your babushka’s Sunday kitchen in Odessa. It’s a fusion of Jewish and Ukrainian soul food, wrapped in the chic of a brunch spot that somehow doesn’t suck. Grandma’s heart, chef’s brain, and just enough Instagram gloss to make your annoying cousin from Brooklyn say, “Wait, this is in Staten Island?” And then there’s the rug. Yeah. Right in the middle of the dining room. Like something The Dude himself threw down just to tie the whole damn place together. It’s not just kitsch it works. Like having lunch at your one fancy friend’s house. The one with taste, not money. And if you don’t finish with the warmed up chocolate babka, you’re a lost cause. It’s sticky, rich, messy utterly phenomenal. Eat it with your fingers. Lick them clean. That’s what they’re for. Sandwich and a Pickle doesn’t just serve food they serve memory, nostalgia, and a big middle finger to anyone who says Staten Island doesn’t have culinary game. Go. Eat. And bring your appetite and your grandmother’s approval.

Always gave this place five stars up until today. Came in to have lunch with my 8 year old. We ordered our drinks and food “the menu wasn’t full and they were out of some dishes” and waited for it. And waited. And waited… 25 minutes later we get served soup and dumplings for an appetizer. 5 minutes later I reminded a server that we are missing our drinks. They apologized and brought out my drink. After that we got served food and I had to remind them again 15 minutes later that my child didn’t get her hot cocoa. So 45 minutes later she gets hot chocolate instead of cocoa, but no worries. She enjoyed it anyway. My kid begins to eat her schnitzel sandwich and tells me she can’t bite nor chew it. I check the chicken and it was all dry and way over cooked. So there is that for our lunch. My child came there to enjoy mini franks, milkshake and her schnitzel and ended up eating dumplings for appetizer and that’s it because everything else was either not available, nor impossible to chew. So we just got our check and left. They were nice enough to remove drinks and the schnitzel from the check, but not sure if my foot will ever step into that place again, even though the food I ordered for myself was delicious. PS. Yes, that’s a schnitzel on the picture. 🤦🏻‍♂️

We saw this place and decided to check it out for brunch. I'm so happy we did. The restaurant is so quaint and the food is absolutely delicious. They have lots of brunch/breakfast options and lunch options as well. They also had some nice cocktail and mocktail selections to choose from if you decide not to get their coffee. We ordered the pancake flight that had soo much delicious toppings and the chicken schnitzel (hands down the best schnitzel I've ever tried). Their wait staff is friendly and helpful and the food portion was great. One suggestion I would give is to reserve ahead of time since it's a rather small location and fills up fast. You could also order to go if you prefer. I'll definitely be coming back since we really loved our food and experience there!

Beautiful little place decorated in cottage core style and I wanted to love it because they were playing some great seventies music but oh my the food and the service really had to go. Our lethargic waiter who didn't have a clue what was going on. I ordered soup and I never received it. After 20 minutes and receiving an appetizer we ordered I called him over and asked about my soup. It was pretty obvious he never put the order in. He walks away and then I thought is he bringing it? He didn't say anything so after 10 minutes I call him over again and he says oh I just put it in but it will come out with the food. So I said I don't want it with my food, it was a precursor to my dinner. So that's how it started and then I got my entree. I love brisket and so I ordered the brisket but it said it came with hoisin sauce which I found strange but I said take a chance. The sauce tasted awful. I scraped it off the meat but the brisket itself was dry and tough. It didn't taste like anything. I was so disappointed. I was really hungry when I went in there but I couldn't eat it and after picking at it we decided to leave. My partner wasn't thrilled with his Reuben sandwich but he took the half he didn't eat home. I was asked if I wanted to take mine home and I said no. It's a shame because it is such a...

I do NOT like giving bad reviews or less then good reviews but in this instance I will say what I trully feel.... We heard about the new Sandwich shop and wanted to try it out, The resturant while small is extremely clean with very helpful employees and it will will seat up to 20-25 adults. The shop offers sandwiches and breakfast foods and we were only interested in corned beef on rye for take out, The prices are fair but the sandwich will not resemble a NY style corned beef on rye stacked piles high and the biggest issue was the way the corned beef was presented on the rye bread as the meat was clearly a cooked corned beef which appeared to be cut with a knife resulting in large fatty chunks in the sandwich and overall made the sandwich appear, taste and feel as if I made the sandwich in my own kitchen with a leftover hunk of corned beef.

Quality corned beef NY style sandwiches need to be machine sliced and piled fairly high on the rye bread with pickle and cole slaw alongside to be memorable..

Outside of the way the meat was cut and piled on the bread the meal was very good and the price was fair but nothing about the place would have me jumping over barriers to go back again and I can see others having the same thoughts after their 1st...
