If I could give this facility a 10 star for dedication of aides, I would. They are incredibly skilled, compassionate, mature and friendly. They took great care of my dad who was a patient in room 408 since June 2018. In addition, you have some dedicated nurses who work hard daily. It was a pleasure to talk to them and obtain current information about my dad. My dad arrived here in terrible condition and from the start, male nurse Mark did a thorough examination. From then on, a retired part time social worker saw him as frequently as possible to ascertain his psychological conditions since he was suffering from dementia. There were frequent outbursts and profanity elicited by my dad but staff assisted him thoroughly and with superb care. I always felt my dad was safe and secure when I left the facility nightly and/or missed a day visiting him. In addition, my dad’s room was always immaculately clean; his body always clean and aides responded to his needs. In addition, the menu there is like being served in a restaurant; sufficient and very tasty. My dad gained the necessary weight in 3 months which had a positive affect on his health. I often stopped the chefs to compliment their menus. My dad always ate his food and occasionally requested second servings. Physical therapy was superb. They were patient, caring and attentive to my dad daily. He improved in his mobile abilities which was indeed a success and challenge at times. I’d like to commend male therapist Jean and female Maria who worked tirelessly with my dad. He had two others in the afternoon that I was not familiar with. Social services attempted their best and Patrick responded when I needed I for Amarion and help. However, his supervisor Sharon was habitually rude and made nasty comments that I particularly disliked. I strongly recommend that there is a privacy room for patients families to discuss their loved ones conditions and progress since most information should be confidential and the family should feel confident and at ease to reveal information to the designated social worker without the supervisor rudely interrupting. On one occasion, she referred a particular assisted living for my dad and after my visit, I rejected it due to its substandard conditions. Upon informing Patrick and Sharon about my findings, she emphatically told me “that my dad would be released to a men’s shelter unless I decided on a place”. That was a very insensitive comment and she said it in the presence of others. I always kept her updated on my research and visits to various assisted living sites and she still had the nerves to send me a federal express letting indicating quite clearly “that my dad would be discharged to the men’s shelter on 9/23/18. This upset my dad and me when she and Patrick were informed that I had scheduled another visit to another facility on the proceeding Monday(which was 3 days later). I received this letter very early in September. Fortunately, my visit to the facility on Labor Day which had standard and positive conditions resulted in me deciding to have my father be discharged there. In addition, your social services team needs to be updated on new current sites and information regarding seniors, veterans and improved services throughout the city. Much of the information that I obtained was on my own via the internet and other senior organizations. Finally, security was always pleasant and performed a good job. The financial department employees, Josefina and Renee always had time to listen Nd advise me with pertinent information whereas the social workers failed to take the same initiative. In closing, I am very thankful, grateful and appreciative to all of the help and care your staff provided. I am very proud of them and I’m certain you are also. Keep up the great work and make sure social services maintains open communication with the patients and their families. Kudos to the successes in Highland Care Rehab Center. I will...
Read moreAll these 5 star reviews are obviously FAKE ! This place truly needs to be INVESTIGATED BY THE STATE and overseen as far as policy and procedures are implemented . After being transferred to this woundcare facility my dad developed a bedsore on the top of his foot which is crazy like how can you get a bedsore on top of your foot under the care of a woundcare facility. They specialize in woundcare which is really concerning ! He fought tirelessly to overcome this despite short staffing issues and compromised conditions. Nurses and staff constantly complained about being understaffed so my family and I would come spend hours days and and nights helping them to care for my dad at this facility . I won't show this gaping multicolored wound due to its graphic nature but it caused my dad further suffering and worsening of his condition . Thanks to my mom ,his highly adept podiatrist surgeon who managed to save most of his foot , a few highly skilled amazing doctors and nurses who despite burnout and lack of help worked diligently with us, our aides and myself who all have dedicated experience, time, and energy to save his life from this heart wrenching nightmare my dad was able to heal with only a partial amputation of his foot when he was given only 5% chance of survival at the onset of this ordeal . This could have been avoided had the nurse at the time properly recorded and reported her findings instead of trying to focus on not allowing us the family to see the wound or take photos to monitor its progress. It's like they don't want to properly do their job nor have the family participate in helping their loved by tracking declination or progress of issues. Unfortunately the neglect in this nursing home continued as he was constantly left in feces , on occasion they lied about changing his dressing, they refuted the doctors orders on occasion wanting to do their own treatment , he was almost taken to the wrong appointment in which the wrong procedure was almost performed , he missed very important appointments, they conducted poor and neglectful emergency response procedures as he was poorly cared for continuously ultimately leading up to his demise . He died . He is now gone forever . A man that loved dearly and was dearly loved . Unfortunately due to continued negligence my dad has now passed away but his indelible soul will live on forevermore. I reached out countless times to get an account of what happened the morning my dad was sent to the hospital and every time I called I was told to call back no one could tell me what transpired no one wants to take accountability consistent with prior experiences at Highland care. When I filed a complaint that was the only time a doctor finally called me to express his sympathy but I still wasn't given clear answers but left more confused as he didn't witness what happened first hand . It has now been over a week and I still have no clear answers as to what actually happened to my dad that day . I watched my dad slowly decline at this facility I've seen and heard others complain about their loved ones and I truly hope anyone interested in bringing their loved one here already has a memorial and services arranged as this will ultimately be your loved ones fate .I don't know how this facility is still in operation and how the culpable staff is able to sleep at night knowing they failed to protect his rights and health as well as meet the essential needs leading to his harm and fatality. Understaffing ,Inadequate training and intentional disregard for residents is a serious issue at Highland Care that needs to be addressed ! No one deserves...
Read moreI have been at Highland care center for 2 months. I have been to other facilties before but this one is by far the best ive been to. First off the rehab department is fantastic. I attend PT and OT every day. They monitor my progress daily. They are all seriously trying to do the best they can to get you better. The rehab has updated equipment and i continue to do very well. My PT Jonathan and my OT Nancy are really sincere and truly want to help.
My social worker Tekerya is always available to solve any issue you might have. No matter what it is she response immediately. Any time i want to have a day pass to go out, social work is always helping arrange.
As far as cleanliness, the facilty is nothing but immaculate. They are constantly cleaning up, sweeping, mopping. Its always super clean.
The activities is where they really excel. They have bingo just about every day. They have lots of activities with music. They bring in djs, and all types of musicians. Domonic from recreation is beyond amazing. Very hands on with the residents and always in an upbeat mood.
The nursing contantly comes in to check on me. Always asking if i need or want anything. They really are always there for you. As soon as i got here they labeled my clothes so i wont lose anything. After they label my clothes they are washed every week. The nurse Madana is an unbelievable nurse and a sweetheart.
For a nursing rehab the food is exceptional. We had a special day where you get a choice of which food you wanted. It was better then some resurants ive been to.
