One of those treasures that makes history come alive... complete with very kind and knowledgeable staff that dress the part. There were about 5 or 6 of the houses open but we may go back again in the fall to see other houses that were closed today. They have a real blacksmith on-site and a real carpenter that made the broom making machine by looking at a picture of one from the 1820s! I loved the presentation on voting in 1800s, it seemed to hold a very balanced view.

I also loved the museum exhibits. One was on Black American baseball history and I saw where my people would've been allowed to play! Go NY Cubans! The other exhibit on toys through the ages was really cool too, especially the tamagotchi/pogs/ beanie babies section - shout out to those born in the 80s🤣

Edited the review to include ample free on-site parking which is rare in NYC and the ice cream shop is adorable and my children said the ice cream...

Beautiful, well-preserved buildings, some dating from the Dutch colonial period.

It is free to walk around and take pictures of the buildings, but guided tours are not, although it's pay-as-you-wish every Friday. The guided tours, which can be booked at the Visitors' Center, allow guests to go inside the buildings and learn about their historic and cultural significance.

I like that they do not try to touch or renovate the buildings unnecessarily in order to preserve their authenticity.

My guide, Ain, was friendly, knowledgeable, and very patient with questions. I did not feel overwhelmed with information.

The place is a bit difficult to reach by public transportation from all the other New York City boroughs, including Manhattan, so those without a car might want to reconsider. From Manhattan, it takes at least an hour to reach the...

The colonial section of the site was a true gem, offering a glimpse into the early days of America's formation. Authentic replicas and meticulously reconstructed buildings showcased the resilience and resourcefulness of our ancestors. It was both educational and captivating, bringing history to life before my eyes. Moving forward through the centuries, the site flawlessly transitioned to the eras of revolution, expansion, industrialization, and beyond. The exhibits were thoughtfully curated, providing comprehensive insights into the struggles, triumphs, and cultural milestones that have shaped our nation. Each display was accompanied by engaging narratives, interactive elements, and immersive multimedia, ensuring an engaging and informative experience for visitors...

We're dedicating July to #StatenIsland, the NYC borough covered with more natural greenery than any other. It abounds with parkland, beaches, and architectural landmarks, too. Many New Yorkers reach it via the free Staten Island Ferry, an attraction in its own right. Other highlights include shopping at Empire Outlets in St. George, wandering the gorgeous grounds of Snug Harbor and Historic Richmond Town, Sri Lankan and Tibetan museums, and a ball park with amazing views. Follow @NYCgo as we #GetLocalNYC and #StatenIslandLikeANewYorker all this month. We’ll be sharing posts here that highlight the borough for you to save and share as you plan your visit. And, if you've gotten this far, drop an emoji in the comments that reps the borough!
