I think people assume this cemetery is closed has to do with Wikipedia saying so. I have been trying to find out for years how it came to be that my Irish Catholic great grandparents had several infants buried here in the 1800s. They eventually were moved to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown but I have never been able to get an answer from any rabbi or clergyman...

I've seen many graveyards all over the world, and I find this cemetery the most devastatingly beautiful. Its disrepair adds to its charm and sense of antiquity. I've heard this called 'the spookiest cemetery in New York City.' Having been to spooky cemeteries all over the world, and this one is a contender. I would have thought it was abandoned if I didn't see funerals taking place almost every time I walk through. Harry Houdini's grave is close to the main gate.
