I’m pretty sure I haven’t left a negative review of anywhere before but I’m still trying to get my head around this. as someone looking to use a wood shop in New York this place seemed almost perfect. I visited 3 times before signing up and joining and everyone seemed really nice. During the initial “table saw lesson” (which is an understandable expense) I was informed “no exotic woods, including mahogany, no sanding of those woods at all” also “no spruce on the jointer” When I asked why, it was because “someone might be allergic” So, people aren’t allergic to -whatever options are left ? If this was on their website, or if someone informed me when I walked in previously, I could have saved myself a lot of time. I’ve since reached out to friends around the country who are using other maker spaces and this is not what they are experiencing. So here’s a wood shop where most wood species are not allowed. So if you need the tools, they have them and it might be perfect for you, but if you work with anything slightly “exotic” ask some questions first.

Well returned by Curt W and Alexa L from MakeSpace. Delivery guys are so nice kind. They let me know the damages, and what to do next. Out of 14 boxes, 2 got damaged… My gaming chair is missing one of the wheel. Other than those everything is looking fine. I will see what they will do for those damaged items, and will update the review.

Pretty disappointed in my experience. I had a cnc project with a unique material (a rigid foam), and without ever meeting with me or even talking on the phone, i was told it was not something they thought would work. i have done this project at a different cnc mill at my old job, so i know it was possible. after i tried to explain this and offered to come show them the material, i was ghosted for several weeks then finally told they were too busy to try it, and "good luck." lol. For a place that claims to promote creativity, makerspace nyc seems more like some grumpy old men stuck...

Classes leading to certification for serious things are rare & then canceled/postponed to no future dates. I've been waiting for over a year now just trying to get the necessary certs so I can complete a project. I never see more than a handful of people when I'm there. I guess its because its too hard for people to get certs in order to use the machinery. This means there's something dysfunctional...
