I had such a wonderful experience here. Let me start from the beginning. I went to north Babylon county clerk in the morning and they denied me because my birth certificate had a tear and I taped it. Didn’t even look at my birth certificate which you can clearly read I was born in Queens NY and can read all the information they needed to submit for the application but didn’t want to. The supervisor came over and told me that we can go back and forth all day but we are not giving you your license. They treated me worst then dog s@$t and was so nasty to me and my spouse that we left in shocked how they treated us. I called 311 for the process to get a birth certificate quickly and to get new copy of a birth can take weeks! I was so frustrated and overwhelmed I just didn’t know what else to do. To top it all off we have a set date for the ceremony on March 10th. We decided to give it our last shot to come here knowing that you must have an Appointment to be seen. I am so glad that not only that I came here but thankful how helpful everyone was, the security guard she listened to me felt for me and my situation and directed me to the licensing office. I spoke to 2 of the staff members downstairs who was also very nice and end up directing me to the supervisor name Angela. She is an Angel! She is so kind and was so understanding of the situation I was in and squeezed me in to be seen. I was told to come back after lunch which I did and she made sure that I was taken cared of and left with a marriage license in my hand. I cannot thank this woman enough for her kindness and the helpful staff. If I didn’t have a private officiant set for the date I would definitely come here for the ceremony and request Angela. Everyone from here has made this new transition in my life so much more easier and definitely a happy ending! Thank...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I just got off a red eye flight, and we headed straight there from JFK for a wedding license. When you enter, you go through security just like the airport. Take anything out from your pocket, and any metal (belts), and walk through.
Don't pay attention to the bad reviews because the security here are really polite! They asked us what we were there for, and gave us directions. After we walked down the stairs, we were greeted by another guard, and she was super friendly as well! Pay attention to the signs, and follow any instructions from the staff, and you'll be fine.
We checked in with our ID's, and we waited about 40 minutes before we sat down with a rep. During that time, you get to see everyone there wanting to get married and it's a joyous moment.
Our rep then checked our ID's, took our info, and we paid the $35 fee via Mastercard. He gave us a few opportunities to review our names, addresses, and so on before he finalized it and printed our wedding license. We were there for less than 1.5 hours.
Tip 1: have the two of you each fill out the application online (this will make things quicker and smoother when you're there) Tip 2: bring valid ID! I saw a couple getting scolded for not bringing any ID at all. Tip 3: watch out for popular dates! the rep told us so many people came on 8/8/2018 and the line...
Read moreTerrible. Pick literally any other borough’s city clerk office for a less stressful and less awful experience.
When I came for my marriage license I waited 40 minutes and then they went on an hour lunch break so I had to wait until they were done with lunch. Plus all the time I spent finding parking, it was such a huge waste of time. Then they took an absurdly long time to mail my marriage certificate back - it has been 40 days and I still haven’t received it, and my company HR portal only allows me to change my insurance within 30 days of the Qualifying Life Event. I called them over 25 times and nobody picked up. With nobody to answer any question regarding my certificate status, I took an Uber and showed up in person to get some face/voice time, and they refused to let me talk to somebody about my issue. They said I have to make a records room appointment which has a 16 day wait out. They said maybe try booking a marriage license appointment (again) and telling them it’s a mistake, you just need your certificate. Honestly it’s a circus. I was told that queens office is just so backed up they barely have time to deal with the in persons, let alone the mail or phone calls. They need a serious overhaul. It’s 2023; it shouldn’t take this long to get a simple piece of...
