Surfside 3 Motel — Attraction in New York

My whole stay lasted for a week. Upon my flight arrival for air shuttle service, it was a little slow but had a great driver! He was very informative and friendly. Checking in I felt uncomfortable with the man at the front desk because he did not look approachable. I asked him if I was supposed to just sign the piece of paper he gave me and he kind of pointed without saying much. It was slightly awkward and I felt unwelcomed as a guest. The room I stayed in had 2 beds and as I requested ahead of time I received a water view room which was very nice. As I walked in, the room still had a trash bag on the table with cleaning supplies..it was then that a random male employee just walked into the room. I was very surprised, he had apologized then started to converse and then finally left after a few minutes. I had noticed there were a few minor broken corners in the wall and on the table we had, but it was nothing major. Everything was clean and beds were alright, not the most comfy. Room smelled a little funky. If you buy air fresheners you will be just fine though! Most of the time walking through the halls it reeked of cigarettes and smoke even though it said "no smoking" on the sign in the hallway. I was kind of disappointed about that. The cleaning lady who cleaned every 2-3 days did an amazing job and I was very thankful she was in charge of my room. My favorite employees were the driver (who was a manager) and Maria/Marie, they were both very helpful and friendly! I will never forget the fact that they were very understanding and let my friend and I stay later until 3 pm and drove us to the airport later just to catch our flight! Although my expectations were not for a 5 star hotel and I do understand that the Surfside only provides the services for a motel rating, I was extremely disappointed with my stay there. The price I paid for 2 rooms at this motel was not much less than I would have paid at one of the hotels a little further away. I did chose this establishment for the convenience of having my wedding venue next door and I did get a fairly positive referral from other people who have stayed there in the past. I do appreciate the accommodation that was made for an early check in, however when I arrived the whole motel smelt like a grow house for marijuana. I had my husband, two teenage sons, niece and 9 month old daughter with me. All of our clothing for the wedding, including my very expensive wedding dress was with us. At that point I had no choice but to remain there and get prepared for the wedding. My photographers arrived at 4 and could not bare the smell. I could not take pictures that showed prep before my wedding. In addition, we paid to have the rooms for the night. After our wedding was over we came to the motel to take our stuff and check out because I would not have my children or myself sleep in a place that had that overbearing smell of marijuana through the establishment and out into the parking lot. In addition, the line was out the door for hourly rentals with music blasting on crossbay blvd into the lobby. It was a very disappointing experience and pretty much ruined the few hours prior...

The location was adequate, the room my business partner booked was dreadful. When I go on business trips, I conduct a usual routine examination of the place where I am to reside; including bedbug check, usage of UV light, odor, etc. This motel passes the bedbug check, which should be the bare minimum in the U.S., although I did notice huge amount of staining throughout the bedframe. Completely and utterly failed the UV light examination as there are plenty of fluids and bacteria clusters. In fact, it was almost impossible to find a spot that my UV light did not detect anything. I have stayed at numerous locations around the world, plenty being in third world countries, and I have only seen a handful of residences atrocious enough to be comparable to this motel. The stench of liquor and marijuana is omnipresent, with the only fresh air being available outdoors. Rowdy noises in the night prevented my business partner and I from getting any rest in for our meeting. My business partner also observed the change of attitude from the staffs of being cordial to callous upon payment, seems as if the management cares only for monetary gains. I would suggest using the capital earned to invest in ameliorating this sorry excuse of a motel. Sincerely would not recommend staying here for your own sanity and...
