Nybg is one of my favorite places on the planet Earth, however I have to say, the Farmers Market has been going downhill every year, and now it's a complete joke. You can't get any greens there, there's only about half as many options as there were even 3 years ago, it's just terrible. It almost feels like they don't want people from their own neighborhood to come there, like they're just hoping people come from Manhattan, or Tourists, but they're not really reaching out to the community. I live walking distance, and there are people on my block who don't even know that the botanical gardens exist, let alone the Farmers Market. It feels intentional to me, which is really disappointing. Having said that, it is truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and I love going there so much. But like I said, I'm really disappointed in how they deal with this community, and again, I don't think they even feel like they're part of this community. This comment is kind of disjointed, I know. :-) but I think you know what I mean. I feel like when the farmers market was better, a few years ago, I used to see some people who live around here showing up, but now that the farmers market is so limited, none of those people come around anymore. But like I said, even Beyond just a farmers market, it doesn't even feel like the botanical gardens is really in this neighborhood, it's like it's floating in the air, and not even a part of the ground. It's weird, but that's how it feels. I would love to see it incorporate some Outreach to the community, I feel like that would be so valuable not only for nybg, but for the people of this...
Read moreThis is part of the NY Botanic Garden in the Bronx. My wife and I went on a Wednesday which is a free entrance day if you are an NYC resident. It is $20 for parking but saving the entrance fee cost covers that. Thai Family Forest is sort of in the middle of the Botanic Garden so it is shorter to get to the rose garden area from the main entrance by cutting through using the forest path. The forest is serene and quiet and a bit cooler on hot days. It also has a stream and small waterfall. The whole place is lovely and well maintained but for us the rose garden was the best and simply beautiful. A great place to spend a day if you enjoy floors, fauna...
Read moreThere are a couple of trails within the forest to follow: Spicebush Trail, Ridge Trail, Bridge Trail, and Waterfall Trail. Google Maps has more detail on the trails than NYBG interactive map has to offer. If time is limited, the prettiest trail to follow would be the Spicebush Trail. It is picturesque during the peak Fall season and best to walk through during the early hours of the morning or early afternoon. From the Spicebush Trail, follow the Bridge Trail to get to the Lucy G Moses Scenic Overlook to admire the view below and across the...
