This has been the worse experience in my life of renting a car. This was my first and last time of renting with Thrifty. When I first arrived on 11/26/24 to the LaGuardia site of Thrifty/Dollar two females were there. One named Renee and Another female I believe was Latino. It was pretty busy at the time and then came my time. The black Wonsan Renee asked me to hold at the very beginning to take a personal call for herself. After she thanked the person on the phone for her paying $11.00, she promptly hung up and looked at my face and asked sis I have a problem. I told her I was hot and she then started to look at my card over and over suspiciously until I pulled out the paper reservation to ask if she needed the confirmation. She asked the woman working with her at the opposite counter was this right and she answered yes. She then said I could go elsewhere or try to put the credit card thru myself. I was in utter disbelief. She told me no then out of nowhere she asked did I have another credit card. I said not with me why? She said bc my first initial was on there, but my name is hyphenated and different and she said even if it shows we the last name to a t and my First initial that wasn’t good enough. She then said she’d call her manager who she put speaker and he said he was interviewing and I would have to wait. I was appalled! This behavior is unacceptable for customer service. My husband and I waited and waited u til I had to call Priceline who the reservation were made thru to complain and they got involved to see what was going on. Finally, the manager called back and asked how many days was I going to rent for and she told him 9 along with me on the phone. She asked me 4/5 times the same question was my husband a driver and I said no you’ve asked me this 5 times in which she responded you’re counting huh. I said yes, I’m documenting everything so I can contact corporate as well as the ceo to let him know exactly what has transpired. Finally we received the car which was dirty on the driver side and dented up in the back and scratched. The guy at the gate asked my husband to sign and I explained to him that the vehicle was in my name and I needed to sign in which I signed above my husband ‘s signature. He was patient and nice. I took pictures then had the detail sheet filled out to show the dent in the very back and dings. Renee was very nasty, sarcastic and argument I’ve if that was her real name bc she didn’t have a badge on, but luckily I took pictures of everything I was given from her and the man at the gate that filled out the problematic areas of the vehicle. Renee stayed for me to just make sure it was full during return. Now on the return of 12/4/24 the gentleman told us to pull in and my Priceline was supposed to be $620.73 per Priceline plus $200 deposit per Renee that she said Priceline charged and to ask them when I inquired about it. She said it would fall off as soon as I paid. Fuel was full and the gentleman with the glasses said I was all set and didn’t need to go back in after he read me my name after dropping off early at 12:07 ish. I received nothing at all. He called for us a shuttle which a nice Jamaican man named John was very nice, but I was alerted by my back when I got off the plane that the declined an amount for the Full $820! What is going on? I would very much like a call from thrifty asap. At this point I’m getting ready to report fraud. Thank GOD I have a family member who is an attorney and I knew to take photos of the total estimated charge of $619.95. I will be calling my bank and I need to talk to a manger from Thrifty before I definitely ask for a full...
Read moreDo not rent from here. I was charged around $240 for an electric vehicle that did not work. After charging the car to 96%, which was supposed to give us 255 miles, the car broke down after 90 miles. The car was completely dead. We called Thrifty emergency roadside assistance and the representative on the phone said they would charge me to send a tow truck. I told her that my friend and I were stuck on the side of the road, it was dark outside and we were scared. I asked her how long it would take to get a tow and how much would they charge us? She said she didn't know and when I repeated that we were scared she said, "You can call 911," and then put us on indefinite hold. We eventually hung up. The car would lose charge so easily we had to turn our 6 hour drive into an 11 hour drive to accommodate for recharging the car. When I returned the car, I asked to speak to a manager at this Thrifty location. I was met with a customer service agent who was on a personal phone call, I asked her if she was on the phone and she said, "Yes, but I can listen don't worry." I asked her to please hang up the phone and I explained that on top of my car rental cost I had to pay $217 for a tow and I wanted Thrifty to cover it. She told me that I didn't charge the car. I explained to her multiple times that I did charge the car. And she later admitted she did not know how to charge the car. Then she spoke to a manager who was in the back office, she came back and said "We can give you $50 off your bill." I said the bill was over $200. Then the manager came out and tried to explain to me how cars work. No joke. He started explaining how with gas cars, "you fill the car with gas." I literally stopped him and asked, "Are you trying to explain to me how cars work?" He told me to call a help line to get my refund. (Note: I've called that help line multiple times and have yet to speak to a person. I keep getting directed to a website where I filled out two complaint forms but have yet to hear back from anyone.) When I asked where the $50 they were offering me came from, the manager admitted it was not actually $50 off the bill, rather it was a coupon for $50 off my next Thrifty rental. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. It's been more than a week and Thrifty still has not returned my emails. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I even warned a customer who had been waiting there for over 30 minutes to not rent a car (especially an...
Read moreThis is the worst car rental company I've ever encountered. I completely understand why they have a 2-star rating. Shame on me for not checking Google before making a reservation. I went by Expedia's rating. Lesson learned, I'll never do that again. If Google allowed less than 1 star that's what I would give this company. This was my first time renting with them and it will most certainly be my last.
I reserved a full size vehicle for three days via Expedia. After standing in line for 45 minutes they told me I can't rent a vehicle because my driver's license has a crack in it and they could not see the number. Mind you my travel companion and I were able to read the numbers with no problem. Not to mention I just used the license with TSA to board a flight to NYC with no problem.
I travel often for work and personal and have never encountered anything like this. I just rented a vehicle in NYC two weeks ago and three weeks ago in another state with my driver's license with no issues. Again, shame on me for not sticking with the reputable companies I normally use, but they were booked.
The interesting thing is, I received several emails and text messages from Thrifty regarding pre-check in. I've done this many times before with other car rental companies. When I attempted to check in online with Thrifty I had to upload a picture of the front and back of my driver's license, that was a first. Their online system accepted the driver's license photos. The only reason I didn't complete the process is because once the driver's license photos were accepted I was prompted to take a selfie and upload it. I was akready uncomfortable with uploading photos of my license, I wasn't going to take a selfie (which I'm not a fan of doing on anyway) and upload that as well. That seems a bit excessive to rent a car. I've never had to do that with any other rental car company.
The manager was rude and told me I have to qualify to rent a car. That's news. Is not my reservation, valid driver's license, and credit card...
