My husband planned a kids free night out with a group of our friends. We read the reviews and thought this winery would be a fun start to our evening. All I can say is that it was quite the contrary. I certainly will not recommend anyone to the winery EVER.
We arrived shortly after 5:30 and found an open spot at the first serving area when we first walked in. There were 2 female servers, a brunette and a blonde, assisting others and after waiting for a few minutes without being acknowledged with a "hello", "welcome", "I'll be right with you", etc. my husband and I thought we would scope out the place and walked around. We then headed towards the second tasting area. It seemed crowded in the 2nd tasting room (not the club members tasting room) so we walked back to the first tasting area and to the same open spot we initially stood. The brunette still appeared occupied with customers at the other end of bar. The blonde server served the customers to the left of us, served the customers to the right of us and when completed walked right passed us - still not even acknowledging our presence - and then stood next to her coworker at the other end of the bar not serving any customer. Needless to say, I still can not understand her actions or that of her colleagues and so my husband and I decided to leave.
I called the winery to let them know about our experience and received an apology from Sierra regarding the above. Shortly afterwards, I received a call from Pete who also apologized, requested us to come back and explained the server was in training. I truly do not believe there could be an explanation that could justify that type of behavior.
I have worked for companies both large and small. On day 1 you are taught the simple principle of customer service. While I can not comment on the wine we were never served I would suggest to the staff, a simple hello goes a long way.The lack of professionalism we experienced was unacceptable. The degree of ignorance was...
Read moreThis place is so great. I heard about a Groupon deal to do a tasting and take home two bottles of wine, and I had a great time there with my girlfriend. Our server Vanessa was very friendly and attentive, it was great how she characterized the different wines and discussed her different takes on the relationship she has with the wines. They have a delicious cheese platter, and their baguette with honey butter is a must-try, so good.
Better yet, you learn that they have the most amazing membership deals in the world, and I have been a member of the Yacht club for the past several months. This lets me bring 3 friends in whenever I want for a glass or a tasting, and a personal cheese platter, all COMPLIMENTARY! My membership fee is only billed every 2 months and it is $125, but that is also a CREDIT towards their delicious wines. My favorite wine is the GSM, and they are also coming out with a great new Primitivo soon. They have a cheaper membership as well that is only $66 every other month and still lets you bring a guest in to taste 8 different wines.
The best part about OCW is that everyone there is just really friendly and generous. You are always being poured a considerable portion of wine (more than a 2oz taste pretty much always), or a nice big glass if you aren't doing a tasting. Good wine, friendly people, and great deals, for an all around value you really can't...
Read moreWe were supporters/paid members of Orange Coast Winery since 2019, and continued our financial support through the COVID closure and renovation/permitting period of 2 years. Promises were made by the owners through email to those who kept their paid membership that upon reopening, various incentives and a priority booking reservation system would be in place for tastings to those members who stuck with the winery the last couple years. Reopening has since happened and promises were not kept, and new ownership didn’t seem to care or appreciate members who kept the winery afloat during 2020-2022. My inquiries were met with robotic email responses. When I asked to cancel membership, there was no attempt to even try to keep us. This was a fun place to go back in the day. The wine isn’t particularly great, but the staff and atmosphere made it really fun. Sad that things turned out the way they did and customer service/respect went...
