Posting on behalf of my mom, a small business owner:
I was very happy when Hmart first came to the Chicagoland area. I thought Hmart was the best Korean mart in the Chicagoland area so I spread the word everywhere I went. As time passes by, I am very disappointed. I have been shopping here for the past 17 years. Before coming here every Wednesday, I would order what I need for my business before coming to pick it up but when I arrive, they say they don't have multiple things. I didn't have a good feeling so I asked multiple workers and they say they have the items in stock. Even though I told the person in charge, I'm still not provided the items that I need even though it's in stock. I did an experiment to see if my instincts were true and called in last Monday and ordered 4 boxes of bean sprouts to pick up on Wednesday but they say they don't have it in stock by the time I arrived. I was so angry that I asked one of the Hispanic workers while I was there and he said they have plenty in stock so I asked him for 4 boxes of bean sprouts and he did provided them. I was deeply upset. Are you accepting payment and selling elsewhere? Or are you only selling it to new restaurants? If you don't have enough items in stock, you should order more instead of hiding it. I want to know why you aren't selling it to me as a customer and it's frustrating when no one is there to help me. If work is too hard for you, then you shouldn't be working there. Stop ignoring me. Even when I go to the meat department, they treat me terribly. They say things like go buy your meat at Assi or Joongboo because it's cheaper there. This has happened multiple times. Even if I raise my voice, the person in charge of the meat section doesn't even do anything. Why is Hmart making people turn away from them? Saying things like go spend your money at Assi or Joongboo, ruining the image of Hmart's owner. I'm not sure what why the workers are playing around like this, especially the people in charge when they should be setting an example. Even the people working at the customer service know about this. Please get your act together.
If someone at Hmart corporate would like to get on a phone call, please send...

Read moreMost incompetent supermarket and cashiers in Chicago. Don’t go here!
I was waiting in line at the cashier with someone behind me. The cashier seemed like she wasn’t paying attention at the get-go, just going through the motions. I paid with my credit card, no help from her. The machine told me to “Please Remove Card,” so I did. Again, she wasn’t paying attention at all. It looked like she had already begun scanning the items of the next customer before she had finished bagging mine, but I left the register without anyone telling me there was an issue.
As I was heading to the parking lot, I hear the cashier running after me to tell me my purchase hadn’t gone through. Now, I wouldn’t expect the people here to be discreet about something like that, but I went back to the cashier to see what was wrong. Turns out that wasn’t my only concern—the cashier had mixed items of the person behind me into my cart, and mine into hers!
The cashier was frantically adding and deleting items at the register now. No order. Complete disorder. It was so bad the person behind me just walked out of the store without completing her purchase! I think she was more annoyed than me. She had just had it. I don’t blame her at all. Seems like I wasn’t the only customer they lost.
I told the cashier she needed to stop and rescan all my items to make sure they were the items I purchased. If I got double charged for anything, the store will expect a chargeback.
None of this would have happened if the cashier had shown an inch of professionalism. No, not professionalism—minimum competency. You double check whether an order is finished before moving onto the next customer. You certainly don’t just start mixing the items everywhere.
This could’ve happened to anyone!
Moral of the story—just drive a little farther and go to Assi or Joong Boo. I’ve never experienced any incompetency like...
