Not Coming back based on 'Biohazard' Escape Room experience.
The escape room itself was challenging but I was not happy with the overall experience of this escape room. When I spend 110$ on an escape room experience for a mere 45 min, I want to experience the gratification of solving most clues if not all. I understand we may not all be able to escape but the frustration of being stuck at the same point for more than half the game completely ruined it for us.
First, i felt 45 min was too less to escape the room. Most escape room experiences I have been to are 60 min and I do think that would have allowed us to solve more clues.
Second, the instructions we were given during the check-in was not very clear. The person that checked us in rushed through the instructions and the volume of the background music was too loud. After we requested the volume to be lowered, the instructions were still rambled too fast and with a complete lack of interest. May be he hated being there on a long weekend. While this is a repetitive process for the escape room employee, it would have helpful, if the directions were provided in a comprehensible speed.
Third and my primary reason for the frustration, it was our understanding ( based on what we could comprehend during the fast instruction session ), that we would be given clues over the walkie talkie if we were stuck. The escape room experiences in other places do provide clues if we have been stuck for a considerable time. But, we were merely left to our own. So after 23 min or so, we did not progress at all and asked for help ( there was a microphone on top of the room) but no hints/clues were provided to further our game. This was very frustrating and completely ruined the experience for us.
Considering that once our time limit was over, the employee came in and explained the reminder of the clues ( again in lightening speed and with complete disinterest), i do not see a reason not to drop a clue here and there if we are stuck without progress for too long. Even if a couple clues were given to us to help progress a bit further, it would have been a better experience, even if we did not manage to escape.
Overall, I felt it was not worth the money we spent and I will not be returning to...
Read moreI've been to many escape rooms, and this is probably the least well done I have been too. For one, they only give you 45 minutes to escape as opposed to 1 hours.
Besides that, the props are cheap and also rely on a lot of "Do this!" text.
The biggest problem is when there is a mechanical failure, the game master is not there paying attention. For example, we tried the correct code on the same lock about 50 times, and we were yelling for the game master to confirm whether we had the correct code, or if there was an issue with the lock. No response. This was at every part.
Also unlike a lot of games, you did need to do a lot of the clues sequentially, so if you were stuck for mechanical issues or otherwise, you were SOL because the gamemaster was not there to correct issues.
EDIT: I think the owner's response is pretty indicative of the care they take in their rooms. Rather than caring about the many mechanical issues in the room and the fact that they effectively have no game master, they would rather say it is a "skill" issue.
Of the 20 or so rooms I have done, I would say I escaped 19 of 20. There is no amount of skill that when you put in the correct code, but the lock does not open, that can be corrected with no game master.
Additionally, when we pointed out which props had worn the level of illegibility, they did not care then, or now.
I can recommend almost every other escape room I have done, but...
Read moreI have done escape rooms all over the United States and gave Amazing Escape a shot based on the great reviews. I was pretty disappointed. Their way of giving clues is not very efficient to me, you just talk into the air and the clue is typed out on the TV screen. We were given a clue we’d already figured out, and because of no verbal communication it’s hard because you have to wait on typed replies and it got confusing. Took three times of the guide typing responses to get to the part of the clue we needed. Walkie Talkies would be much better.
We had no pen/paper in the room so we HAD to use our phone notepad to take notes. Also 45 minutes is short, I’m accustomed to 60 minutes.
And my BIGGEST complaint and reason for the poor review…we did NOT escape and the guide would not finish the room with us. She said we were close but if we wanted to know how to finish the room, we’d have to come back and try again. So we have no idea what we lacked, if we needed 2 more minutes or 45 more minutes. I have never experienced this and would absolutely not have went to this one had I known that. So hopefully this review helps someone from the...
