DMV — Attraction in North Bergen

(May 2024) Sometimes, they require you to renew your license in person. Keep in mind they'll take away your current license at that time (even if it hasn't expired yet) and give you a piece of paper good for one month, that says it is NOT to be used for ID purposes, only for driving until you receive your new ID in the mail. So FOR A MONTH YOU WILL HAVE NO ID (unless you happen to have a current passport). I found this out when they handed me the paper.

Some staff wore masks but not 2 of the 3 I had to interact with (we were at the beginning of another wave of infections). The staff member who took my picture was not wearing a mask.

When you are required to renew your license in person, you are also required to schedule an appointment to do so.

My appointment went fast, probably because I scheduled the first appointment of the day and got in line about half an hour before they opened (there was one person lining up already). Line forms at least half an hour before opening. I spent 25 minutes inside, including bathroom stop at the end.

Then I finally found a time to go again. My grandmother brought proof of address from a bank statement that was partly in Spanish but the address with her name clearly printed as well as the BANK name is not. It was rejected. Let me remind the DMV that addresses in the United States are in English and that United States does not have an official language. Translating a bank statement is kind of silly.
