The perfect quaint New England town, Wickford has beautiful views of the water and tidal inlets. There's a great lunch place for smoothies, salads, sandwiches and baked goods called +Shayna's Place as you enter from the south. Wickford is home to a library with exquisite views of both marsh and woods and a whole lotta great books and more. There are still a number of small gift shops, clothing shops, kitchen shops and other unique specialty stores, and has avoided chain stores other than the Rite Aid Pharmacy in its downtown (yay, Wickford!). There's a lovely garden store that has beautiful plantings and lots of nice places to grab a sandwich and eat outside. They also have a terrific farmer's market in the summer. Be sure to visit "My Paris Apartment" around the back of the Wickford Gourmet Factory Outlet (another great shopping experience). There's a great park for kids--Wilson Park with playground for little ones, basketball court, track and soccer fields. Lots of pretty flowering trees in spring. During the holidays, Wickford has some lovely traditions where Morris dancers perform, along with local choruses and other music groups. So much more, but I'll leave you to discover all that Wickford...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe came from CT to enjoy both the Art Show and the stores in the Village. We have been doing this for several years. This is one of my favorite days of the summer. What a disappointing experience We had this year. I knew the festival had moved, so I was prepared for some changes, but this was total chaos! The traffic, the parking, the shuttle bus....yes one bus.....being away from the village.....and $10.00 to park....CRAZY! This was a HUGH mess! Even the art vendors weren't the same caliber I have seen in Wickford in the past. I always buy something either in one of the shops, or at the show and sometimes both...we also eat in the restaurant across from the Green Ink, ice cream, and we complete our day. Well, this year, other than parking, we didn't spend a dime, and we will be crossing this off our list...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCute village close to the harbour and the coast. The Main Street is nice and has some cute shops but we found the staff in the shops to be quite unwelcoming - it made us have a bit of a feel of being āoutsidersā. When walking round the streets people could say hello so the general public seemed friendly. Good walks in the local area and saw lots of wildlife like egrets, cardinals, squirrels and chipmunks! I would say for sure this is a very seasonal place, we visited in the days leading up to Memorial Day and it was very quiet, lots of the shops werenāt open long or opened...
