Bottom line: Kids are not welcome.
First of all our server was awesome and understanding. So he gets 5 stars. But it went downhill after that.
The drinks were poorly made. My espresso martini looked curdled because they shook it with hot espresso, and the mojito wasn’t even muddled. For a place with “press” branding and a higher-end feel, that was a surprise.
The cheese board was the highlight — the jams, olives, and local cheeses were excellent — but the presentation made it awkward. The bread was cut into wedges and the cheese into cubes, which made it hard to enjoy together.
The menu didn’t match what was online. In person, it felt like a confusing identity crisis: a mix of tapas, middle eastern flavors, Rhode Island seafood, and Southern touches. It’s not that any of those things are bad on their own, but together it didn’t make sense and felt like the kitchen couldn’t decide what it wanted to be.
The biggest disappointment was how our child was treated. My wife and I had our 6-year-old with us in a resturant which is s rare occasion as my wife is very nervous bringing a child someplace nice to eat, as would any parent. While waiting on our dinner to be served, he was quietly playing in the grass running a little, not bothering anyone and even making an older coulpe smile. Another waitress then ours announced to us infront of everyone it was policy that children must remain seated with their parents. My wife was very embarrassed and we decided to leave, since we don’t get out much together because of kids and no grandparents still with us this was very disappointing. If you have children, I would not recommend coming here.
Overall, the food and drinks were inconsistent, the menu lacked direction, and the atmosphere was unwelcoming for families. We...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Press Thursday evening. The bar was lively so the host kindly brought me to a table instead. The small room was very homey and clearly had some inspiration from French dining. Every inch of the restaurant was incredibly clean and had a warm welcoming atmosphere.
My server Gwenn was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. The house-made focaccia with grape and rosemary was served warm and was the perfect texture. The meatballs and candied bacon (cut in house) were great also. The standout app though was the charcuterie which may have been one of the freshest I’ve had. The cheese was purchased locally in Wickford which is great to see local business supporting each other. The same goes for selections for wines by the glass, several local favorites on there also.
I had to the duck breast for my main course which was very good but could not finish due to eating so many appetizers and wanted to leave room for desserts. The pecan pie and espresso martini were wow!
Special thanks also to manager Jess for her recommendations and being so friendly.
I sincerely can’t wait to come back and bring friends. Press will be very busy by the summer months so I will have to cement my place as a regular before then! I urge everyone to go and support this new restaurant in the heart of Wickford, they are a great addition to the neighborhood. Thank you...
Read morePress is a beautiful restaurant situated on the water in Historic Wickford. The exterior is a perfect addition to the neighborhood, reflecting the seaside colonial beauty of the 18th century, including a lovely kitchen garden. The interior is relaxing chic with a comfortable coffeehouse feel. My partner and I were there for brunch and ordered drinks and three dishes. We started with the Chocolate Raspberry Cold Brew, luscious and creamy with deep notes of raspberry and dark chocolate, and the Iced Black Paris Tea notably the most fragrant and subtly fruity black tea we’ve ever tasted. For food we had two breakfast sandwiches: bacon, egg, and cheese on a brioche bun as well as sausage egg and cheese on English muffin. Both were delicious with perfectly cooked soft eggs and lovely sauces. There were pickles on the bacon one that really made it pop. We also had the biscuits and gravy. These were two perfectly flaky and fresh biscuits with a tasty sausage gravy. This is a hard dish to find, especially cooked so well. Since the biscuits were so good we decided to try the chocolate croissant. What a treat! Beautifully laminated and crispy dough filled with two bars of exquisite dark chocolate. All the baked goods are house made. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Service was spot-on perfect. Try this...
