It’s a really nice beach and very close to home. We spend a lot of our summers here. However, the amount of rocks on the sand is ridiculous. It was so hard getting back and forth to our blankets. My son is special needs and has sensory issues. The rocks made it horrible for him, he wanted to sit and slide instead of walking on them. I had to wear my sandals in the water. Even once you get in the water you have to walk a little ways before you pass the rocks. You would think with the $5/hour parking or the $20 all day per car, whiting would have enough money to get something to remove the rocks, push them to the side or something. Other than this it really is beautiful. I hope they can work on...
Read moreI went to this beach a bunch of times last year with my kids, & it's was great. Huge beach, hardly any rocks. I go this year, it is literally ALL rocks, & hardly any beach! I I know they do not have control over the water level & how high the water comes up but they do have control over how many rocks are actually on the beach & it is ridiculous because last year it was ALL sand & this year it is ALL rocks!! They should bring through some sort of sifter or something & scoop up all of the rocks and sift out the sand because it is absolutely terrible you lay your blanket down & you're laying on top of all rocks! Not fun! They need to fix...

However, upon going in the water, I was whistled out because apparently they only let people dip their feet in when there’s waves. I don’t understand the huge freak out over simple waves when I just want to go swimming. This defeated the whole purpose of my trip to this beach. The beach itself is beautiful and has distant views of the Chicago skyline, but my experience wasn’t great. All in all, you’ll probably have a good time on most days, but avoid if...
