After spending all my life living in the Chicago-area I found nothing more ubiquitous in the local food scene than the Greek Coffee shop/Pancake House type establishment. So named because the vast majority of these places were run by mostly Mediterranean people, most of whom hailed from Greece. There is nothing revolutionary about these restaurants and their menus. Breakfast anytime. Your burger, club sandwich, open-faced sandwiches nestled next to a generous helping of fresh mashed potatoes, salads, dinner specials that change daily and usually a pie and cake display showcasing a variety of delicious choices.

Sunrise Family Restaurant fits squarely in that category. There is nothing fancy, just a huge selection of choices that will surely leave everyone in the party with a palatable decision when the waitress arrives to take the order. Nice portions, prices that can fit into the most modest budget. Generally, there are always a few tables open except for weekend breakfast. Then expect to wait a little bit.

This is a place that doesn't try to be anything other than what it is, a place to eat a meal that doesn't suck and won't get you sick. Sunrise easily passes in that regard that is why I...

This place is delicious my whole family loves it. Im sorry im doing this but i only think its fair last year we went to eat there and my son found a roach 🪳 in his bbq side sad part he found all the way at the bottom once he was almost done with it. We the manager we brought it to their attention we SHOW HIM and he told us they were sorry about it. That the food was on them for that day. So we stop going for few months and we decided to go back hoping they took care of their problem. Few months in my brother gets a roach 🪳 on his burger bread at the bottom half way eating his food. He found it disgusting and we brought it to their attention again. They said the same thing they were sorry the food was on them. So we stopped going again and then today my son was been stubborn about going there so here we go we set down they brought us our drink and they said that they were really sorry but they were not going to cook for us because of the burger incident. So we were the affected onces and we decided not to put them out there and still denied food for us. Thats crazy im sorry but im assuming they haven't fix there 🪳 problem. Be careful when...

Have been going to this restaurant for years. Late of last year I had an incident where I discovered a cockroach inside one of the ketchup containers my son was eating. I informed the staff politely and they waived the bill as an apology. Some time passed after the second incident where my brother in law found yet another roach stuck to the side of his beef patty on his hamburger. Again, I informed the waitress and she waived the bill. I have not asked either time for the bill to be waived, I just simply brought it to their attention. People could get sick from eating pests. Later the same night the restaurant attempted to charge my debit card for the amount but it declined. I assumed this was a mistake. Being skeptical about returning after both incidents, my family decided to go again for food where they informed us we are banned from the restaurant. Without a reason they refused to serve us and take our order. We left without incident and never got our explanation for the permanent ban from one of my favorite restaurants despite the last few experiences involving pests...

After hearing mixed reviews for over two years, I finally decided to give Sunrise Restaurant a shot, and sadly, the rumors of uncleanliness were spot on. The inside has a lot of untapped potential with a nice layout, but the overall cleanliness was severely lacking, and the interior felt stuck in a time warp. The exterior didn't fare much better—it's old and deteriorating, which isn't a great look for the downtown area. Once inside, I was greeted by piles of dead flies in the lighting fixtures and layers of dust everywhere. The condiments were crusty, adding to the overall lack of hygiene. The service was underwhelming; we never got water, and there wasn't a single check-in during our meal. The food itself was okay. While it had decent flavor, it was clear that it came straight off the Sysco truck, and the presentation was nothing to write home about. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were generous, which was a plus. Unless there are major improvements in cleanliness and an update to both the interior and exterior, I won't be returning.

DISGUSTING!!! The sanitary conditions in this place is a joke. Regardless of how busy an establishment is sanitation and food safety are always first priority. I brought my elderly neighbor in for breakfast. After eating, she noticed there was a used bowl of creamer on our table. Neither one of us had creamer. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he was too busy. This was not a ploy to get a free meal. I’m sure they have cameras and they can review video. There were used napkins and papers from straws under the seats and booths. Then I read another google review about a woman who had a bug in her food. I hadn’t been here in years and now I wish I had read the reviews. A bunch of uneducated young girls that work there. Whom clearly have no sense of customer service or food safety. Never again will we return. DO NOT EAT HERE unless you want someone else’s used utensils or bugs in your food.
