This is a wonderful, charming museum showcasing local art. The museum is nestled in a serene location and its exterior beauty matches the landscape. You’ll find ample, free parking. There is a suggested donation at the door.
I went on a Friday morning and viewed the Altered Books Exhibit. The museum has a pleasant layout with about three main rooms, which are not very large. However, there is ample art to enjoy.
I was pleasantly surprised by the open studios that allow guests to meet and talk to the resident artists, located on the first and second floors. I believe there are additional studios next to the museum that you can visit. Each artist has work on display and there are various prints available for sale outside their door. I felt like these studios were bonus exhibits! Some of the artists offer various classes and even one-on-one training.
The second floor also houses a large exhibition room. During my visit, there was a large art mural painted by homeless youth of Marin, which was wonderful to see.
Before you leave, be sure to check out their lovely gift shop. It has a little bit of everything and you may even find a gem in their clearance section.
Overall, this is a great local museum and I will definitely return to support...
Read moreThis is a great musuem for both kids and adults! You can actually see artists at work and see and buy completed works of art. We also found some artist working on a commissioned piece - aka a custom order specific to the buyers request. There are various forms of art present from sculptures to glass design to art paintings and even origami art! They have numerous rooms which are a bit small but there is a large and inviting entry and a large group area upstairs. The gift shop was wonderful. The classes and events offered were diverse and often. THE REASON I WRITE THIS REVIEW....besides it being a great little unknown treasure in sleepy Novato is they give back to the students! I only found the location because my daughter was invited there on a field trip! The only other way I would have possibly found it is the very good (hearsay) restaurant next door! Parking can be confusing but the staff is great and will gladly direct you and put you at ease! Go...
Read moreA mecca for the artists around Marin County, this museum is more than just a gallery. The building’s many studios are used by local creators and you can stop by and chat with the painters and sculptors working here. Budding artists will find it particularly inspiring.
The museum is unusually modern and dynamic for a small city, and exhibits are switched regularly in the large gallery space.
The building itself, an off-the-wall take on the Spanish Mission style, is also well...
