My 12 year old son attended the Bill Pilat Nike Lacrosse Goalie School in Golden , CO this summer for the first time. We are from LA and couldn't make the San Diego dates so I took the jump to travel to Colorado for him and the camp and am SO glad I did! What a terrific organization! Everything was incredibly organized and the coaches were numerous and encouraging and the boys AND girls seemed to LOVE this camp. That says a lot on the 95 degree heat for hours at a time doing drills and scrimmages. My son has only been playing for 1 1/2 years but increased his level so much in just a few days. The feeling of camaraderie and inspiration was immense. When my son was suffering from a little altitude sickness I got a call from Coach Pilat himself letting me know he'd keep an eye on him. If that isn't great coaching/service/care taking, I don't know what is. We can't wait to go to Florida in December for the next Lacrosse Goalie Camp and look forward to next summer and being back in Golden AND San Diego. If your child is a Lacrosse Goalie, I highly recommend you find a way to participate in one of these camps....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy 14 year old son just attended Bill Pilatās Goalie Camp at Berry College in Georgia. The experience exceeded every expectation I had and made a tremendous impact on my son. The depth and breath of his Lax Goalie IQ went up dramatically. He truly understands the best way to approach his position, where he needs to be and how he needs to execute. His confidence, technique and saves have gone up dramatically. One particular station at camp showed me how much he had improved... āRapid Fireā. The coach uses a tennis ball shooting machine to improve reflexes and reaction times of goalies by firing balls at the goal. Boys jump in and stay until they get scored on. Most boys stopped 1 or 2. An older boy stopped 7 and the kids were loving it. Finally, John got his chance... he made 19 consecutive saves!!! THE KIDS WENT CRAZY!!! There is no way that happens without the previous 2 days of drills and training by Billās coaches. This was our first trip to Bill Pilatās Goalie School but it wonāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe are coming from a slightly different perspective, my daughter is a goalie here in Richmond, VA.
This camp seems to be about 20% goalie training and then the rest is just target practice. The first day was remarkably unsafe and I was seriously considering pulling her out because the coaches were lackadaisical about safety for the goalies. She was hit twice above the shoulders on the first day. During a regular match, the fouls wouldāve been significant enough to at least draw a penalty or possibly an ejection.
After this initial experience, I ran my criticism up the flagpole and got positive response. The remaining three days were safely handled and I donāt feel as though they were in any danger.
Overall, the remaining time of the camp positive but this initial experience felt as though there was no planning. Additionally, from a cost perspective; the discount is very trivial. Obviously, they want to have goalies so maybe a 50% discount at least would be...
