I keep reading the importance/need to ‘feel’ each season. As if short days, rain, and the cold are therapeutic for me. Question?!?! What about the millions of people who live on/near the equator? Sun + the ocean are my free therapy. Highlights from Oahu (last time I was there was Christmas 2019 so everything was closed 😑) This time I got to check out the Polynesian Cultural Center which I can’t recommend enough. Not only is the place STUNNING but you get to really immerse yourself in Polynesian culture. Dole Plantation - i mean they have dole whip everywhere in Oahu so unless you really wanna learn about pineapples, probably can skip it. #oahu #polynesianculturalcenter #hawaii #escapewinter #escapewithus Oahu, dole plantation, Hawaii, Polynesian cultural center, winter vacation, summer in the winter, Explore Hawaii,

This center is amazing! It's a must when visiting Honolulu for the first time and even thereafter. All shows are quality. The Ha Breadth of Life could be a Broadway show...Just fabulous choreography. It is an action packed day. Don't miss the movie in the Hawaiian Journey theater. It's one of the only air conditioned venues and the movie about Hawaii was awe inspiring. We learned how to play the ukulele near the mission settlement and each village had their entertainment show put on by the college students from that island culture. We followed with the Gateway Buffet which allows you to try Hawaiian/Asia foods that you may not try elsewhere. Huge buffet with options for vegans, vegetarians and gluten sensitive. The park opens at 12:30pm with a big show in the lagoon and you don't stop till about 9pm. It is at your own pace, but it's show after show and it encouraged you to just keep going from one village to the next We visited August 12th and we were told it was the hottest week of the summer. Very tiring being in the sun all afternoon; however if you miss anything, the park offers you a 3 day consecutive pass after your visit for free. Just show your original ticket the next day at the ticket booth near the football Hall of Fame in the marketplace and that's it. They will give you another entrance ticket. That 3 day consecutive is only for the 6 villages, not the show or buffet but you could pay to add it on. We found that 2 days was enough, but if you have children, you may need longer. Monday was most crowded (4-6) big busses came in from Waikiki and Tuesday was a slower day (1 bus). The first day we took the bus from Waikiki and glad we did. We were so tired at end of day. It was nice to sit back and enjoy the air conditioned ride back to our hotel. ($30 a person)The following day, we returned and drove to the Polynesian Cultural Center. The drive is beautiful. We stopped numerous times at parks and beaches for photos. The students who perform at the Polynesian center are absolutely wonderful. Great performances all around. It seems like a lot of money for the entrance, but it was worth it - like your first visit to Epcot in FL it could be compared to. I highly recommend the bus add on from Waikiki - meeting place is in front of ABC store which is well marked on a sign out front. The driver informed us of so much island history the entire drive to the park. Plenty of food options outside the park in the marketplace when you arrive (Disney prices, but good) You may picnic there as well, but can't bring food that needs refrigeration into the park. You can bring snacks. Save by bringing your own water to the park; It's allowed, or buy their fancy pineapple and coconut drinks in the park. Loved it! We found so many unique gifts in the marketplace shops. I can't rave enough about our experience here. It was a wonderful time. Don't forget to download their app in the Google Play store. You can get an inside peek.

The Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu is an absolute must-visit for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the rich and diverse cultures of Polynesia. This place offers an incredible, all-encompassing experience that goes far beyond a typical tourist attraction. First off, the various village shows are nothing short of spectacular. Each village—representing different Polynesian cultures like Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Tahiti, and more—offers unique performances, demonstrations, and interactive activities. You can learn to dance the hula, make traditional crafts, or even try your hand at throwing a spear. The authenticity and passion the performers bring to each show make you feel connected to the culture. The highlight of the visit has to be the “Hā: Breath of Life” show, which is an extraordinary evening performance. It’s a powerful storytelling experience combining music, dance, and fire that left us in awe. The talent and energy of the performers are truly inspiring, making it a show you’ll never forget. When it comes to food, the Cultural Center doesn’t disappoint. There are plenty of food vendors offering a variety of delicious Polynesian dishes. Whether you’re in the mood for traditional Hawaiian plates or want to try something from another island, the options are plentiful and flavorful. The Center also offers some wonderful perks like free photo opportunities where you can pose with performers in traditional attire—perfect for capturing memories. Another highlight was the amazing 20-minute movie on Hawaii shown in their state-of-the-art theater. It’s beautifully produced and really deepens your appreciation of the island’s natural beauty and history. Don’t miss the canoe ride, which takes you on a scenic journey through the center’s beautiful lagoon. It’s a relaxing way to see the entire area from a different perspective, and the guides share interesting tidbits about the cultures as you float along. One day at the Polynesian Cultural Center is simply not enough to take it all in, which is why I highly recommend opting for the three-day pass. It allows you to return and fully experience everything at a more leisurely pace, ensuring you don’t miss any of the incredible shows, activities, or cultural experiences. In summary, the Polynesian Cultural Center is a place of wonder, education, and fun. It’s perfect for all ages and offers a deep dive into the vibrant cultures of Polynesia. Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or just someone who enjoys live performances, this is a must-see destination on Oahu. Highly recommend!

A very unforgettable time at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC). It was suggested a place to go by my late-grandfather. The PCC is a non-profit dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage, arts, and traditions of Polynesia. It fullly supports the student-employees of Brigham Young University- Hawaii. It has provided scholarships to the students that work there. 80% of the PCC's employees are students from the University. The PCC showcases each of the six Polynesian nations (Tonga, Tahiti, Samoa, Aotearoa [New Zealand], Fiji, and Hawai'i). Did the Super Ambassador package which also gave me a personal guide (Ben Cho). He is a freshman from Malaysia studying graphic arts. At the end, he told me of his humbled times to come here to be at the university. Students come from all over the world; over 70 countries. They are also part of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ben guided me to some of the Polynesian countries. Also did a canoe ride around the park. You'd have to spend around 16 hours to see everything. He was a great guide and will continue to keep in touch. After guidance from Ben, he brought me over to the Ali'i Lū'au, which I sat front row to the dancing and live music. There was a buffet that featured all sorts of food from all over Polynesian cultures; even pork. I have a bit of pork intolerance, but, still ate it. Did a small tour of the town of Lā'ie and the temple visitors' center. After the tour, went to the evening show (HĀ: Breath of Life), which was epic!! Full production with 400 different costumes worn nightly, all costumes designed and fabricated at the PCC. Since August 2009, the show has been seen by over 8 million people. The show tells the story of a man from birth and goes through life with family and later a family of his own. Each stage in life is represented by a different Polynesian nation. As his child is born, he (Mana) learns that the HĀ-the breath of life, goes on forever. (No film/photo) I may have to go back since the package i got can provide three days of additional admission back to the park.
