Rainbow Watersports — Attraction in Oʻahu

Highly, highly recommend Heidi and Rainbow Watersports. We've been coming to Haleiwa almost every year since 2013. Standup paddleboarding is always on our to-do list every trip, which means we've rented SUP boards from just about everybody. So trust me when I say that Rainbow is hands down the best.

Yesterday we saw their awesome rainbow van parked near the Haleiwa Beach Park (across from the Beachhouse Restaurant on Kamehameha Hwy) and decided to just give them a call to rent some SUP boards. Even though they weren't right there, they came back within 20 minutes, just enough time for us to take a quick walk to the Pua'ena Point Beach Park and check out the tidepools and sea turtle on the beach.

Heidi and her crew quickly set us up with 3 high quality boards, gave us a quick refresher on the route, and off we went around 4:30 PM. Her boards are some of the newest and highest quality I've rent from the area. She even let us borrow a waterproof pouch for free to keep my rental car keys from getting wet. We weren't sure whether we wanted to rent for 1 or 2 hours, and she was super flexible. When we came back shy of 2 hours, she only charged us for a partial hour, which was a pleasant surprise.

The late afternoon / sunset SUP boarding up the river then over to Pua'ena Point was just perfect. We saw over 10 sea turtles in the river, many schools of fish, and the most glorious sunset from the water. They were also doing a twilight glow paddle board experience that looks magical. Finally, as someone who has worked in anti-child trafficking, I LOVE that they support Operation Underground Railroad who rescues children that are caught in sex trafficking. Did my research for a twilight paddle boarding and Rainbow Watersports had numerous positive reviews, so I booked it. So glad I did. My kids, wife and I all agreed that, this was THEE best thing we did during our entire vacation. Megan, our guide was awesome. Very engaging with our family and the other family on our tour. Megan was very informative about the sight seeing aspect of the tour. Then when sunset came, switching the paddle board lights on and seeing the various colors we could chose from was definitely a plus. The pictures that Megan took were also phenomenal. What a great experience that my family and I will never forget and will have something awesome to talk about forever. From seeing a plethora of sea turtles and the elusive manatee, marine life was abundant.The rope swing was a nice add on, for ones who braved it.The experience with being one with nature and just floating in the ocean, laying on your board and gazing at the stars was so relaxing. Again, I picked Rainbow Watersports due to the reviews, so I hope this helps you. Our trip was on the first week of Apri 2023. Can't wait to go back! The light shine from the boards are true as can be. The photos were air dropped right to our phones just as we got onto the beach and finished loading the boards. My wife was having a hard time at first but the other instructor/guide, I believe her name was Elena, forgive me if I'm wrong, was very helpful and patient with my wife and she eventually got the hang of it and was a pro at the end. They also have a dry box for you to store you small personal items i.e. keys and phones if you were wondering, which we did use.

This was an awesome experience! You can rent from them at multiple beach locations. I showed up at the Hale’iwa beach parking lot around 0745 and called their number. I spoke with Heidi and told her I wanted to rent a paddle board and a kayak. She gave me prices over the phone and I also asked if she had any of those plastic waterproof lanyards to hold your cell phone, wallet, etc. that I could purchase from her. She said she would bring one and let me borrow it for FREE. She showed up shortly after the phone call and had everything I needed for a memorable experience.

And it just got better and better. She also had sunglass tethers (the ones that help your sunglasses float if they fall off) that she let us borrow. She saw that I had a backpack with me and offered to keep it in their van for me. She briefed me on the equipment, and gave me some tips on where to go to see the sea turtles. I was in the water by 0830 and took the route she told me to take. I’ll just say that Heidi knows the places to go - take her advice folks.

This was an unbelievable experience, and I highly recommend using Rainbow Water Sports - Heidi was so nice and made everything so convenient! We were even about 10 minutes late returning to the beach but they didn’t charge a late fee!
