What a hidden gem! This park is so peaceful I don't know why we don't visit more often than we do. The trails are flat and very easy for strollers or devices used by mobility-impaired folk. Our four-year-old grandson immersed himself in the interactive exhibits in the visitor center and even us adults enjoyed them too. There is a large topographical map of the Delta and the river systems feeding into it. I find myself pouring water into each of the rivers to watch the water flow to the Delta. This time I felt like the Pied Piper as there were many children that came to watch and "help" me out. Along the trails one might see bathing turtles or any number of a variety of wading and other birds. Perhaps even a muskrat or an otter may make an appearance. A shaded sand pit with an excavator gives kids something else to do while adults just sit and enjoy the tranquility. A visit to the fishing pier is the icing on the cake and we watched kayakers paddling around in the "break." The nearly constant breeze from the water here makes hot days more bearable as well, and on this day also gave a couple of kiters enough air to raise their kites and entertain us all for a bit. I must remind myself to visit more and...
Read moreBeautiful and gentle walking paths in a peaceful setting rich in native plant life and with plenty of opportunities to see some birds or other wildlife. I didn't realize the path continues after a small break into a residential area, so I'm looking forward to returning soon to explore further. I spent quite a lot of time checking out the cool outdoor topographical model of the Delta and rivers. Inside, the info center has interesting exhibits easy for children to engage with but also informative enough for adults, and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to share their expertise. With several sprinklings of seating benches and covered tables overlooking the water, there are great options for a small picnic or meditative break time near the main building area. I highly recommend a visit to Big Break, as I spent several hours here and enjoyed the...
Read moreBig break regional shoreline is a very nice park it has a trail that connects and goes all the way to Concord except at this moment it's closed for a wetlands restoration until the end of February. The park has fishing though I've not seen anyone catch a fish there but it has a very nice covered fishing area dock whatever where you can sit at a picnic table and look out at the water watching the ships go by and the boats go by and looking at a lot of wildlife there's some sunken dredges from the turn of the last century at the park. There are picnic tables covered picnic areas. There is a Discovery center that's open at least on the weekends not sure of the hours during the week. Gives you a lot of the history of the area and the delta and the geology of the delta. Free parking nice restrooms it's a good place to check out in...
