The location has a stunning view of the water and a fun view of the Causeway. The atmosphere is excellently seaside without being "overboard". There are many facets to this location that many needs. My primary goal was a dinner and it was certainly a tasty meal. It is popular with limited seating. Therefore, coming at early bird dinner or off times is certainly recommended. The server, Olivia, was polite. However, there was a mix up on my daughter's meal, assuming it was an appetizer, and being underage, she was unable to really give alcoholic beverage reco.me rations. I had the seafood alfredo with penne pasta. It was a perfect blend of hearty pieces of scallops, shrimp without tails, mussels, a d mushrooms that made me forget that it was a penne. This is great, as that is not my favorite pasta A. We also had coconut shrimp that was so tasty it required a second order, oldman 's burger, and infused fish tacos that had the fish taste without overpowering the other flavors. The Banana Hammock drink was not as light on the alcohol, yet delicious. I wonder what it would have been like with the rocks verses the ble derived. This location also has an amazing gift shop that suits snacking, fishing, tackle, toys, clothing, jewelry, games, and beverage needs for out on the sea. It also offers ziplining tours, which I did not investigate. I will certainly be returning to...
Read moreOn August 25 I along with three other anglers participated in the OIFC Bottom School with Captain Derek Treffinger. The school focused on techniques for catching grouper and started with an evening dock side "hands on" training session. Derek reviewed the proper rigging and tackle required for catching big grouper. We actually made the rigs we would be using the next morning. Before leaving the dock Friday morning on "Catch All" Captain Derek gave us a thorough safety briefing and then told us what to expect over the next 10 hours. Then we departed for one of Derek's favorite grouper spots 48 miles south of the Shallotte Inlet. After catching live bait on our way out and a comfortable but bumpy two hour ride we were fishing. We caught a lot of fish but the prize was three nice Gag Grouper! The final part of the school was a fish cleaning session when we got back to the dock. We all went home with grouper filets ready for the grill! My boat is too small to go out 48 miles but I am confident I can use the skills I learned to nearshore grouper in late September and October! Thank you...
Read moreI called and booked a 10 hour trip 2 months ago. Was quoted a price of 920.00 dollars. Fair enough. Was told that summer was not Mahi season. Lol. I fished in this area for forty years in my own C Hawk 29. Summer is Mahi season. When I called the day before a man answered the phone. Told me there were no mahi and that they did not do 10 hour trips. Went on an 8 hour trip. Never got to blue water. Below average trip. Great captain, Chris. Hung over mate. Threw up in head. Stunk really bad. Got back to the dock. Was still charged 920.00 for a short trip. They immediately took another trip out. This is why my trip went from 10 to 8 hours.wanted to get paid for another trip in the same day. GREED! I give captain Chris a 10 on knowledge and hard work. He does what his employer tells him to do. I'll fish elsewhere from now on. Go to Morehead city. They will take you to blue water and catch mahi in June instead of telling you it's not mahi season. If you want a nice short trip go here. If you want a serious trip,...
