Came in with a party of 7. Told 25-35 minutes. We decided it was fine if my grandparents could handle it. 30 minutes later we were told that the owner was talking to the group at our table and hopefully wouldn't take long(10minutes). 20 minutes later we said that we would split and they said our table was almost ready. We were seated 15 minutes later. If your counting that is an hour of waiting in a FREEZING COLD LOBBY. At this point a member of our party had to leave due to being disabled and standing for an hour put him in horrible pain. During this time a party of 6 and a party of 8 were seated before us when we were here at least 10 minutes before the 6 and 25 before the 8.
When we are finally seated, one of the hostesses was still sweeping out from the table. Drinks (non alcoholic) were taken and served pretty quickly. Then we sat for a good 15 minute just waiting to order after everyone knew what they wanted. When the server came I asked about the special and her description was elementary at best. The board said it was a garlic cream sauce over blackened grouper on a bed of rice pilaf with mixed steamed veggies. She said it's grouper with a cream sauce over rice and veggies. Just not professional.
After our order was placed, they brought out the toddlers' meal almost immediately(3 minutes/corn dogs). Well proportioned and was enjoyed.
25 minuets later our food finally came out. The mozzarella sticks ($8.99) were clearly what you buy at Walmart: only came with 8 SMALL STICKS. The "nautical nachos" were delicious but some of the fish was cold.
Waitstaff kept our cups full and we're fairly attentive, until we were finished. We sat for over ten minutes just waiting to say we would like our checks.
Due to the long wait for everything and the manner we were treated over "Locals" as well as the clearly not fresh seafood (restaurant is at a fishing center on the ocean) that's overpriced; I will not be returning and suggest you...
Read moreSituated right on the Intracoastal, the views at Ocean Isle Fish Company are nothing short of fantastic! The main dining room was full when we arrived, so we headed upstairs to the rooftop tiki bar, which is always fun!
We grabbed a couple of beers at the bar (it’s all counter service upstairs) and were told they weren’t taking any new food orders at the time. A little disappointing, but we figured we’d enjoy the view and make other dinner plans. However, while sitting there, we saw multiple people go up and order food—including a large group with several kids who had arrived after us. We checked again, and sure enough, food orders were back on. It felt frustrating and inconsistent.
Since it was close to our rental and we were hungry after a long drive, we stayed. Luckily, food came out in about 30 minutes. I ordered the Shipwreck Mahi. It was jerk-seasoned, though the flavor was pretty mild. The mango salsa on top was fresh and tasty, and they served it with a huge portion of broccoli. My partner had the Fried Softshell Crab Sandwich and said he liked it, though he didn’t rave about it.
We had heard great things about the Lobster and Shrimp Nachos and hoped to return to try them, but didn’t have time during this trip.
The restaurant has a lot going for it—plenty of parking, a small store, rooftop tiki bar, waterfront views, excursions for purchase, and a back patio for relaxing. That said, I’m docking a star for the confusing service experience and another for food that was just average overall. Still worth visiting for the location and vibe (and probably those...
Read moreThis business doesn't answer their phone for takeout. Apparently there are limited options on the island for takeout seafood on Mondays, even in a pandemic. So I went in person and ordered direct. Took about a half hour to get the food. No problem. They were packed and busy. No social distancing standards btw. I ordered 3 plates to go, paid, and waited. Took my order home. One plate was good. Mine was just fair. And the last plate was just plain sorry and sad. I took it back within the hour. They replaced it, apologized and gave me another plate. I got a second order that looked exactly like my first order with lettuce sprinkled on it. We called back, spoke with the manager, and were given nothing but excuses. By that time they were closing. I went back the next day and was refunded for that one plate. No apology. No courtesy. Just the exact change for the refund. I went there three times to get half a meal for my family and the customer service was just lousy. The manager's attitude was disrespectful over the phone and she just seemed annoyed in person. My family will never there again. And it's a shame because it's not an entirely a bad establishment. We had a pleasant experience there a few years ago. It's unfortunate that some restaurants, or their staff, believe they can provide sorry service when they're aware that customers currently have limited options. I would advise to eat elsewhere. This restaurant takes their location for granted, their customers for granted, and the current economic tides...
