Surf Unlimited Mercantile — Attraction in Ocean Isle Beach

BEWARE. I rented a surf board for my son. I paid for a week-long rental. The agreement they have you sign says that if there is any damage to the equipment you rent, you will be responsible for it. Within 30 minutes of use, the leash broke. We returned to the shop within 3 hours of renting the board to get a replacement. The woman who runs the shop was rude and patronizing to me in front of my 13 year old son, and even suggested that he was lying about how he treated the board. She said I would be charged to repair the leash. With that news, I asked to have the remainder of my rental canceled and refunded. She refused. What's more, She kept the original board I rented, did not provide a replacement, said “this conversation is over”, walked away and kept all my money. There are many other places to rent equipment at Ocean Isle Beach, so I would definitely suggest looking elsewhere. Went in to shop and was greeted by a really nice young lady at the cash register, great selections of clothing, however that was all overshadowed by the two older ladies(one of whom I assume is the owner) talking loudly about their drama with someone. Then someone calls to inquire as to whether or not the shop owner wanted to order something, to which the owner again loudly responds, “NO I DONT PLAY THAT GAME.” I put my purchase back because honestly, you two were so annoying and obnoxious I couldn’t wait to get out of the store. In the future please do not air out shop drama for the customers to hear. I would give them ZERO stars if I could! We rented a surfboard for my 9 year old daughter. I told them it was our first time. Tehy didn't even go over all the details. My daughter shaved down ONE little black fin on the back of the board from dragging it up the docks because it was to heavy to carry. They told me they would have to charge me to replace the fin, which I said was fine. HOWEVER, they keep your card on file and after we left Ocean Isle, that was supposed to be $27.16 turned into $192.16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM! They will scam you! Terrible business! And most of these reviews are from people who are residents or who work there prime season....
