We happened upon Ten Good Sheep today while exploring the town of Onancock, VA. The store, located in the old school building, has so many amazing products and unique items that I have never seen. Karyn was gracious and generous with her time, sharing both current projects she was working on and sharing all of the details of the yarns in her store as well as weaving, dyed and felted items.
I have been wanting to try out using a Drop Spindle. Karyn has them and even did a demonstration for me and helped me pick out more fiber in addition to the fiber she includes with the sale of a spindle. Karyn has ten sheep and the fiber, both roving and spun yarn are sold in her shop. She dyes all of her yarn and her colorways are amazing. She makes felted soap and muttmellows, really awesome dog toys. She also makes amazing felted wool hats, jewelry and covers for journals. I will definitely be back either in person or make an order online.
I can't say enough nice things about the store or Karyn. She is one of the most creative, innovative and wonderful humans I have met in a very long time. I highly recommend experiencing either the store or visiting the online shop if you have any interest in fiber or are looking for a...
Read moreMy partner and I were on a short vacation in Chincoteague last week, so as a fiber enthusiast, I of course Googled “yarn shops near me” and was intrigued by the listing for Ten Good Sheep in Onancock, VA. We were happy to note that this yarn shop was located very close to an independent book shop in Onley, VA so we decided to take a ride to this yarn shop and have lunch at Mallards at the Wharf also in Onancock and make a day of exploring the area. Visiting with Karyn, the owner, at the shop was a terrific experience! Located in old school building which has been converted to a collection of interesting shops and artists’ studios, this shop/studio has wonderful hand-dyed yarns and yarns from Karyn’s own sheep. Karyn was so kind and welcoming, sharing her story and that of all that goes on at her farm. We had a great discussion about Saori weaving and she showed me how her Saori loom operates and the flexibility it provides for creating interesting weavings. She also has hand-dyed silk scarfs, felt covered journals, and I even purchased earrings designed with tiny skeins of yarn. This shop is so very unique and was a great textile experience. Many...
Read moreMy husband and I are traveling up the east coast by boat this summer. Several people had told us, “in Chesapeake Bay, be sure to stop in Onancock.” When I saw there was a yarn shop, it was a no brained for me, and Ten Good Sheep did not disappoint. A really lovely selection of hand dyed yarn, and Karyn is full of good information and advice. So excited to knit with the yarn I bought On top of that, the town of Onancock gets a big thumbs up from us. We were lucky to arrive on a second Friday and enjoyed the ambiance of several shops, bars and restaurants as we strolled through town. On Saturday morning we hit the farmers market and wandered around this charming town a bit more. We made several stops in pretty, historic small towns along both shores of the Bay, and Onancock is at the...
