one of my top favorite local farmers' markets because they have so many local farmers who grow organic: non-gmo seeds, no chemical pesticides and herbicides! A large market with tons of variety of products from fruits abs vegetables, to homemade pies, jams, cinnamon rolls, health care and skin care products, local-made cheeses, kombucha drinks, flowers, starter plants, lots of different landscaping plants and flowers, decorative flower pots, mushrooms, eggs, meats, and ready-to-eat-now foods. Very friendly and just plain nice Farmers and vendors here. It's under a covered area and on Saturdays there is always live music, a different group and type of music each week and they have always been top notch musicians. It's also right in old downtown Overland Park that's been revitalized and there are lots of fantastic shops, eateries, restaurants, and stores right next to the market, making it a fantastic place to plan on spending an entire morning and afternoon, andc even evening strolling,...
Read moreI cannot possibly say enough good about the OP Market. I've only been able to go on Saturdays, but I have gone just about every Saturday for the last few years and never left empty-handed or unhappy. The variety of vendors is impressive, as is the selection. No matter your taste, if you enjoy locally-grown or sourced foods, you will find something here.
I also really appreciate the fact that the OP Market vets vendors and emphasizes home-grown. Everything is labeled, so you know that you're buying actual home-grown produce over warehouse produce. Early in the season you'll see more that's labeled as warehouse produce, but I appreciate knowing that vs. assuming everything is grown locally. Another local market without such a policy had a vendor selling pineapples - which surely don't grow in Kansas in May and made me question the "locally grown" nature of anything else there.
I would give 10 stars out of 5 if that were an option. OP really knows how to run a market and it shows. Highly,...
Read moreMy husband and I moved to the KC wanted to go to a farmers market. We heard great things about Overland Park market. Every market that we have been to has allowed dogs (including the River Market near downtown) so we decided to take our dog. We both missed the sign that said no pets allowed (which was our mistake). After stopping at the first booth we saw to grab coffee and the vender said nothing we continued on. However, we were stopped by an older lady that has a badge that said she worked for the market to tell us we were not allowed to have a dog. I apologized and said I did not know that. She continued to prove how right she was by pointing at the sign. It was a very prideful interaction which we were shocked about since we were in Kansas. While I was disappointed to not allows pets after driving 30 minutes when every other market does, I was most disappointed by the interaction by the worker. I am a huge rule follower so I wouldn’t have brought the dog or even continue...
