We have been to the other locations of Taco Naco before. Usually have a really nice experience. We opted to go to this location this time hoping it would be less busy. It was- but for a reason. On a Friday night during dinner (6:00-6:15) they had a singular register open. While you’re standing in the line (which can only really fit 4 people comfortably) the food runners are having to go around and between you constantly. Not their fault, just really poor layout. By the time we got to put our order in, we had been there a solid minute.
Got to our table and the queso we ordered arrived quick. So did the barbacoa taco we ordered, but it was cold. Maybe from the toppings, I don’t know. But wasn’t great. Later, someone came up and tried to give us some birria tacos, but we said we had ordered birria ramen. They said okay and left. Probably ten minutes later, the manager came by and asked if we were waiting on anything. We said the ramen, and she said okay and left. We sat at our table for another 20-25 minutes before giving up and going back to the register for a refund. The rest of our food had been delivered within 5-10 minutes of sitting down, and we had been waiting almost 40 at this point for an entree.
Again- got to sit in that wonderful line. Once we got to the register I told them the situation and they called over a manager (the same one who had spoken to us). She pulled up our order and said “It looks like you ordered the birria tacos”. I said “I’m sorry, the cashier read back ramen. Even then, you had come to our table and asked what we were waiting on. We’d just like a refund.” She looked at me for a few seconds before just giving us a refund. No apologies were given until we were walking out the door.
Another thing to note- as we were standing in line someone from the kitchen came to refill the chips. He poured them from a white trash can into the holder. While I get it probably doesn’t get used for trash, it was filthy. Made both of us feel sick given we had just eaten some.
If we feel like we can stomach their food again, we will never return to...
Read moreTaco Naco, is a combined taqueria and market. Owners Brian Goldman and his wife and chef Fernanda Reyes never intended to have a restaurant at first. The idea started off as a class project and turned into a catering company that soon started selling regularly at the Overland Park Farms Market. Now with a storefront just a walk away from the market they have come a long way!
Jillian and I have always loved Taco Naos's salsa and kits sold at the farmers market. We were finally able to visit their storefront and our eyes were opened to a while new world of tacos.
You have a lot to take in when you walk into Taco Naco. On one side of the colorful, welcoming shop, you will find their lineup of salsas, as well as a lineup of moles, in addition to fresh produce. The market also offers a small curated selection of Mexican sodas, juice, candy and imported durable goods. And on the other side of the restaurant is the taqueria.
We were welcomed in by several very friendly employees. Quickly they could tell it was out first time and offered to help us understand what they were known for. I had to try a Taco, a burrito and their street version.
I was blow away by how simply yet extremely flavorful everything was. One of my open faced tacos was made up of salsa and a fried egg. It sounds plan, but you could taste the fresh ingredients and the smell was to die for! Then you get to the burritos which are wrapped in a local tortilleria called Yoli. If you have not visited their location near Blue Bird Bistro in Westport you should. Our burritos were wrapped in their pork fat tortillas. Its like eating something that should have its own slice of the food pyramid. These burritos were heaven all rolled up.
After we ate we even picked up some of Taco Naco's salsa, tortillas and dips so we could make our meal this weekend. I am glad that decided to take a concept and make it reality I can't image a world without their tacos in it! Keep up the...
Read moreUPDATE: After continuing to purchase their delicious sauces my wife and I decided to give the food another shot this morning at the OP Farmers Market and was pleasantly surprised. The breakfast burritos were quite tasty. We split a bacon and a chorizo and found them both to be delightful. We plan to venture back into the restaurant and give more items a try. Hopefully the first visit was just an off day and we can continue to support local. Definitely earned a few more stars today! Thanks for a great breakfast.
First visit and I was quite looking forward to having a good taqueria close by and not having to trek down to KCK for a good authentic taco! Unfortunately I found the food quite underwhelming. I tried a Carne Asada Burrito and a Pork Pastor taco. These are 2 of my favorite things to try when evaluating a new taco joint and both left, well, not much taste in my mouth. For $12 I would have expected to have more than a giant portion of rice and beans and VERY little carne asada. To add to that the carne asada that was included lacked flavor and was way chewier than it should have been. The pork pastor taco was ok, nothing special. I enjoyed the addition of the pineapple on top but the aioli that they put on it does not blend well with the flavors. The tortilla wasn't warmed and was rather chewy. On the plus side, and the only reason I gave as many stars as I did, the staff was super friendly. The fresh tomatillo salsa was quite tangy and delicious and I purchased a larger container to take home. The market itself was bright, colorful, and clean. I would definitely return to make market purchases and I may give the food another try but more than likely I will just skip the...
