We ordered online which was really easy for us to navigate. Parking in Downtown Overland Park is always an issue but that's not necessarily the owner's fault. The location is easy to find but you might be circling a bit to find a parking spot.
I ordered the lunch special Chicken Pad Thai mild with extra veggies. My partner ordered the Lemongrass Chicken and we also got an appetizer of spring rolls to share.
The spring rolls on their own were dry. I didn't taste any pork flavor but the peanut sauce that it came with saved it. But it felt like all the flavor was from the sauce and not the actual spring roll.
My partner's lemongrass chicken was delicious and the best thing we ordered! It was packed with flavor, chicken was perfectly cooked, and it had the right ratio of meat to veggies. I wish I had ordered what he had it was that good! It does have a strong peppery flavor to compliment the lemongrass. If you're a pepper person, this is the dish for you.
The pad thai however was OK at best. It was pretty bland and didn't have much of a sauce. I tasted a bit of heat but there wasn't much really going for it. I've had better pad thai elsewhere it just felt lacking for me.
Is this authentic? I'm not one to say either way. But I'd advise that some dishes are definitely better than others. They had some very tasty sounding dishes but not a lot of variety when it came to their lunch portion options. I'd be willing to try a different dish and visit again for a more accurate depiction of the restaurant but upon first impression, it didn't...
Read moreMy first time eating here. We actually accidentally stumbled upon it looking for a place to eat. It is nicely set up inside. Clean in both eating area as well as restrooms. However, it was a bit dark/dim. We sat in the booth that had the most lighting. I didn't want to eat in the dark, I wanted to be able to see my food. The staff is really great. Very friendly and attentive. For appetizers, I ordered the garlic pork riblets and the coconut shrimp. The riblets were great in taste, however a bit small and you will need some teeth strength to pull the meat off the bone. I was a little disappointed in the coconut shrimp as when it came out, it was just deep fried tempura shrimp with coconut flakes sprinkled on top. The flakes fell off the shrimp when you grab a shrimp. The tempura nor the shrimp itself had any flwvor of coconut in it if you didn't eat it with the flakes. Not the typical coconut shrimp I was expecting at all. I ordered pineapple fried rice and pad thai red curry. Oh my, that pad thai red curry was delicious. Perfect on spice level and flavor. They forgot the pineapples on my fried rice, but they fixed that easily. Overall, I had a very good experience and will come back and try other dishes...
Read moreOne of the few complaints my wife and I have had since moving to KC from Hawaii is getting certain Asian foods. Our main issue with the Thai places we've had in town are that the curries are much thinner than what we're used to, but still delicious. We tried the yellow curry and the crispy pork belly with steamed rice and they were both great. We had eaten here before, but got a different curry, and although it was delicious, it was still a bit runny for our tastes. The yellow curry we got last night was nice and rich and thick and was excellent. Crisply pork belly is another item that we have trouble finding here, and this dish was excellent. I had couple of Singha's and my wife got the Lemongrass cocktail with vodka and mint, and she was very tipsy as she thinks they actually forgot to put any simple syrup or other ingredients in and she thought it might have been all vodka/liquor. I saw that as a plus, but she didn't see it that way :). A good solid Thai place that will probably become part of our regular rotation when we want Asian/Thai. For comparison, we also like the Thai Place on 87th but don't like Bangkok Pavilion on Metcalf as much, although we've only given...
