Read moreThe newly constructed Thompson Park is truly a bright and shining spot in Downton OP. After a bit of controversy regarding the handling and teardown of the old park grounds, I can guarantee visitors will find themselves enjoying the offerings of the new park. There's an abundance of interesting seating areas among the mature trees, the unique playground area is neat but on the small side, and the shelter and barbeque area provide a very inviting place to picnic. There is a neat alcove that offers WiFi and 110v outlets for public use as an outdoor work area.
My only complaint is the obvious lack of trash and recycling cans, and I only hope the city will add these receptacles as the park welcomes visitors...

It has been remodeled in the last 5 years and has a great playground, splash pad, interactive things for the kids to do, and lots of places to sit and just enjoy the environment. There's a nice path if you want to take a stroll and large grassy areas for kids and kids to run. There is a pavilion with a grill and picnic tables for big events and individual tables spaced around the park for smaller gatherings, too.
