I've eaten at this location several times as part of a group outing with my Caucasian chums (I'm of a different ethnicity), and the food was well prepared, and the service usually good. During a recent visit alone, I experienced poor customer service. This was my second visit alone. I gave the benefit of the doubt during my first visit. The resturant was full when I arrived, but not packed like it is on "Taco Tuesdays". After waiting for awhile, a female server approached my table and took my beverage order. During all my previous "group visits", I witnessed chips and salsa automatically being brought to the table. However, I never received chips and salsa until I asked for it. I was offered a refill.
Toward the end of my meal, my server leaves the bill, and says, "Pay when you're ready" and then she disappears. When I was ready to pay, I included coins with my payment, and a different person ( a male) came to retrieve it. He asked, "Do you want change back"? I tell him yes. Upon his return, the young man hands me my cash however, my change was missing. After inquiring about the missing change, the young man combatively challenges me, and tells me that I am actually receiving three cents extra. I had to take out my phone calculator to prove him wrong. He made no apology for his mistake. Just gave a lame excuse about whoever took my money, didn't mention the coins. Seriously dude?
I asked another waitress passing by, what had happened to my original server? She said she didn't know and I asked her to inquire about it. After returning, she tells me," I couldn't find her, I think she went home." I took her at her word, and gave her my tip to give to my missing server. I later found out that she had lied to me. And this was a waitress I knew from a different resturant whom I had tipped well, and had a good rapport with. Turncoat!
After putting on my Jacket and getting up from my table, I see my original server( the one who had supposedly gone home), walk pass me, and approached a group of people sitting in the next booth over, and ask them if they needed any thing else? This table had finished their meal and beverages prior to my arrival, and had been sitting their chatting for hours. I stood their in amazement. And when this young lady passed back by, I asks, "Weren't you my server?". She says, "yes". I tell her that her co-worker said she had gone home and asked if she had received the tip I left for her. She tells me no. And when I asked why she had disappeared, she gave me a chagrined smile and told me she was completing a chore.
This is one of those moments you ask yourself, "Wait, am I being punk'd"?" And for a brief moment, you anticipate the staff breaking character and bursting out in laughter as the hidden cameras are exposed. Only to be snatched back to the reality of having to face the ugliness of discrimination.
What came across was...You're not welcome here. Your presence may cause our predominantly Caucasian clientele to feel uncomfortable, and they are our top priority. If you come with a group of our preferred guest, we're obligated to serve you. If you come alone, you will be tolerated, but never welcomed.
I shared my poor customer service experience with a female manager who was present that night. And all she had to say was, "I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully, it will be different when you come back." In others words..... Hopefully, you won't come back!

Read moreWe went to Mi Ranchito Cocina & Cantina at 80th & Metcalf today for a few appetizers & some drinks after my son's graduation & received the absolute worst service ever! The manager there needs to work on her customer service skills & pick up some tips in showing tact with customers. While waiting over 20 minutes to even have someone come to our tables to greet us & get water, chips & such, the manager Gabriella, looked at me as she was standing around talking to another employee. As she noticed I was looking at her in disbelief that no one had come to our table, she walked to another side of a different window where she turned around & stared at me again, talking before walking away. Someone came to our table after that. My sister asked who we could speak with about the service we received (or the lack thereof) because it was ridiculous how we were being treated. While waiting for the manager to come over, my sister walked around to see how many other tables were being occupied. There were 3 parties of customers & astonishingly, more employees than there were customers dining in. Gabriella finally came over & very rudely, lacking common grace, acted as though we were inconveniencing her by inquiring about the issues we were experiencing. She said she would send someone over to us, basically dismissing our request for an explanation & walked away. I asked for her name & she said it quickly, continuing to walk away as if she weren't concerned. I asked her to come back to our table to get a better understanding but also so we weren't yelling across the patio. She flat out said, "No, I'm too busy to help" as she walked through the door & into the restaurant. At that point we decided to leave. As we were walking through the restaurant to exit I heard her in the doorway of the kitchen & attempted to ask who we could issue a formal complaint to over her. She proceeded to say that she was in fact the owner & there was no one above her. I continued to ask who she reports to because she clearly couldn't be the owner with such harsh words & attitude. She then said she is the district manager & I couldn't speak with anyone else as she approached me in a threatening manner. At that point she began to decidedly become hostile & offered the name Rubler as her manager. My sister then approached, seeing her hostility & said she knows the owner of the NKC location personally & would contact Armando directly... I'm still not clear as to what her issue was, why she refused to acknowledge our grievance & the reason she became hostile but we will absolutely be reporting her after the holiday to the true owners of the...
Read moreFirst timers and initially seated at small and rather unclean booth with visible food underneath as we sat down asked to be moved to a different more comfortable booth and were reseated. Then, a friendly enough waitress took our drink and food order and shortly after that, a server actually tried to bring us another table’s order. We heard them ask to speak with management after receiving their order because parts of it were wrong and the server apparently showed little compassion or care that it wasn’t right and displayed an attitude toward them instead. After witnessing that interaction, while we were eating our food and listening to the manager weakly apologize and with no resolution, we found ourselves also with a problem our order also came out “wrong”….my husband asked for no pico in his burrito and instead they took his mushrooms out of the burrito and filled it still partially with pico. The mushrooms were what he was actually wanting and looking forward to enjoying as an ingredient listed in the burrito’s description in the menu. As our dinner progressed we observed the same server glaring and walking by the other customer’s table…even after the manager had been by we saw her repeatedly rolling her eyes as she walked back into the kitchen. Then, after those customers left, we saw the server and another male co-worker laughing together and he went over to their table and was writing something on the signed bill that the customers left with the tip (as we left the bill was still on their table and I saw the worker had written “horrible service” on top of it as if mocking the whole situation and that seemed so sketchy.) Should add that our waitress who was a bit more kind overall and had tried to check-in with us a few times, eventually asked how our meal was overall. My husband inquired about the missing mushrooms and the pico remaining in his burrito. She apologized and that was about it, almost complacent like it was a common thing to have their orders wrong. In reading other reviews after the fact, seems the poor level of customer service from this location has been ongoing for several years along with the attitudes toward customers. Lesson learned do not just pick the closest most convenient Mexican restaurant…read their reviews first! We will not be back. Our food was bland also and nothing we would ever crave in the future. Hope for their sakes they turn this ship around, start to value their customers more and improve their food quality. Our family...
