ive never been to a more unwelcoming mosque in my entire life. i stopped going to mosque foundation when i was 16 years old because i kept getting yelled at by the elderly women cult in the basement and after returning at 22 years old, approximately 7 years later, i was met with the same unwelcoming rhetoric that turned me away in the first place. i was fully covered and yelled at in the middle of my suhoor in front of hundreds of women for my hijab pulling back. it felt like a humiliation ritual the old lady cult was committing against me and the worst part is that SOOOO many people have stories like this. i recently heard a story about how a convert got kicked out while a woman was explaining our deen to her and the lack of apology thus far has been appalling. this ramadan ive had the opportunity to masjid hop and got to visit the mecca center as well as the palos islamic center and have never been turned away regardless of what i was wearing, how i looked or how “loud” i was. its like the staff of the masjid thinks their deen depends on how much they can reprimand the youth. its a shame our community as a whole looks down at mosque foundation because of its staff and the lack of welcoming in a religion thats supposed to...
