I used to live near by the park. Now, we live quite a ways away, but still drive the distance to visit City Park! Enjoy the large pond with cute ducks, events like fishing contests, children's boat races, among other things. In the pavillion, enjoy antique auctions, activities for children & adults, craft shows & other events. Like most parks, there are many shelters with picnic tables, outdoor grills, etc. that you can reserve for parties, picnics, reunions & other get-togethers. City Park hosts sporting events such as baseball games, tennis matches, basketball tournaments and swimming! There is also a newly constructed monument of Jackson at the entrance to the park as well as the Vietnam War Memorial & other dedicated monuments throughout the park. There is a concert area with a concrete bandshell where public concerts & picnics are held in-season. There is also an in-new-condition bike path where you & your family can ride your bikes. There are special events, carnivals, bazaars & the like, at the park... Out of the Darkness Suicide walk, Alzheimers walk & others; Memorial Day carnival, Multicultural Festival (w/ live music, presentations, good food, dancing, wares & more!), The Honey Festival (featuring bee demonstrations, beekeepers, honey & related products... homemade soap, honey sticks, homemade honeycomb candles & so much more!), The Blue Moon Festival (honestly... I'm not certain what this one's all about, but from the conversations of people who have attended, they love it!) & more I'm sure I have...
Read moreGreat park, This Park has about everything you could ask for, from a great swimming area, fishing in the lake, plenty of picnic tables and benches. The Park is well laid out and the walking trail is very enjoyable, alows you to stroll around soaking up the wonderful out doors. You know all that's nice, but what I found most enjoyable was, hearing children laughing, running around and enjoying the day, watching mom's and dad's playing with children. While walking on the park trail is also an adventure, seeing couples holding hands, pets gleefully taking everything in, and feeling close to there humans. It's said communities aren't close or even know neighbors and in my life I've seen signs that community seems to be heading down that path. I really don't know how to fix the closeness once felt in our neighborhoods, but I'm sure that the answer is found in...
Read moreI was.amazed at this park! There truly is something for everyone!
While visiting the city, it was suggested to my husband for a good run. It was indeed. The outer perimeter is about 1 mile and kind of weaves through the park. While he ran, I entertained myself with the excellent memorial park for our American service men and women which was very respectfully and interestingly done. Then there was the adorable amphitheatre, the peaceful fishing pond, the pool and wave park, the garden club corner, the wooden bear statues, the ancient-looking bird bath, the playgrpund, the dedication trees, etc.
I had a facinating time here as did a good part of the community. It was well-maintained and quite a few but not too many people hanging out. What a blessing to...
