I am beyond disappointed to learn that Caterpillar has been supplying armored bulldozers to the IDF since 1967, which have been routinely used to destroy thousands of Palestinian homes, along with schools, monuments, olive groves, farmland, and water supplies. As if it weren't enough to force Palestinian civilians from their homes, these bulldozers are currently being used to tear down the places they then flee to for shelter and safety... their hospitals, their tents in refugee camps - with multiple reports of sick and wounded refugees being crushed alive (like 23-year-old activist Rachel Corrie back in 2003).
Caterpillar has received tens of thousands of letters from human rights groups, for decades now. I understand that [unconstitutional] anti-boycott laws put Caterpillar in a difficult position. However, if Caterpillar is serious about its stated commitment to uphold human rights principles and its expectation that its business partners do the same, it needs to do more to hold its business partners accountable for these blatant human...
Read moreThere is not enough room for more stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot really put into words how much fun my two sons and I had here this past summer. My oldest child is the heavy equipment buff, my youngest, not as much as his brother (he's more of a train guy, specifically steam trains and old farm equipment). Enjoy the pictures, especially the on of my oldest child sprinting down the steps to the exhibits!! From there had the time of his life on the simulators and displays!! My youngster and I walked the old equipment and he enjoyed ever second of our visit!! The staff was wonderful, a stellar group of folks who take pleasure and pride in this place and the visitors who come!!!
This WILL be a yearly trip for my sons and I to make!! we also get to stop at another of our favorites, Rochelle Il, the Railroad Park!!
What a GREAT and WONDERFUL place, and a three hour drive for me from WI, not bad at...
Read moreIt's a neat place; however, when the sole recognizable purpose of the venue is the glorification of Caterpillar you would expect the entrance fee to be a little less steep.
Cat employees get a discount, and the employee gets in free. A fair expectation for the amount of money Caterpillar pumped into the Foundation.
What you wouldn't expect is offering little or no discount to a school group visiting for educational purposes (and the number of parents who work at Caterpillar). Considering this is owned by a not for profit foundation, it makes no sense why they wouldn't reach out a little more vigorously.
Overall, when the Visitors Center was new, I could state it had some "state of the art" technology displays. As the place ages, and technology progresses, I would expect more frequent updates to the technology exhibits or a lower...
