It seems only fitting that inside the City of Love sits one of the most unique and fantastic wedding venues. A bit like something out of a fairytale, and once praised for its “pleasant design” by Charles Dickens, the Water Works is a National Historic Landmark that offers couples the choice of several amazing sites within the venue to bring the vision for their wedding to life. Neoclassical architecture sets an ethereal tone, and its design is a romantic pairing of nature and modern technology.

The Engine House is a slice of historical elegance in classic Philadelphia style. The hardwood floor stretches out beneath its original crystal chandelier while simple details warm the room making it ideal to host an indoor ceremony. Complete with a tented Veranda for hosting the cocktail hour that overlooks the river, friends, and family can enjoy the breathtaking view of Boathouse Row and the Center City skyline. The Engine House features chef-attended interactive stations, a raw bar, a food library, and a full-service bar. The ballroom can also host a cocktail hour.

Couples who wish to have an outdoor ceremony can choose between the Grand Pavilion or the Gazebo. Standing over the Schuylkill River in grand, Neoclassic style with columns framing the space, the Grand Pavilion is a picturesque setting to say “I do.” A columned walkway leads out to the Gazebo off of the Mill House Deck. Surrounded by meticulously kept grounds and eye-catching architecture, the vintage Gazebo is classic and sophisticated. IG:...

A Philadelphia Essential in my book.

I stumbled across this tucked-away gem while walking the river to see the famous Schuykill boathouses.

What seems to be a simple, unassuming glass doorway opens a world below filled with history, ingenuity, architecture, and engineering, and beauty. Great for adults and children alike. It will awaken wonderment.

Make certain to experience the stunning surround sound poetry/video installation. I was so deeply moved - and at the same time centered - that I returned to let the sound and projection wash over me several time. There is a poetry section and an engineering section, and both were equally powerful for me.

I walked away with this remarkable energy that recognized what can be done when people set about the work of solving challenges together.

The Fairmount WaterWorks is powerful expression of what can happen when the right vision, design, artistry, imagination, ingenuity, funding, and people all align.

Treat yourself, and all you love, to this FREE...
