Arterial Coffee — Restaurant in Philadelphia

I've been wanting to try Arterial Coffee for some time now. My dad enjoys coffee and I enjoy espresso. We had planned a full day of supporting BOB. The coffee shop is beautiful, very clean, open space, the windows really bring in beautiful sunlight, and the background music is at a comfortable decibel. I ordered a crossaint and a cortada. I really enjoyed my cortada. Not everyone can make it right. My dad was holding out for dinner so he didn't try any food. My crossaint was as expected, buttery, flaky, and fresh. HOWEVER, the only reason I feel reluctant to give Arterial Coffee a 5 star rating is due to the poor customer service recived from the barista. She was extremely unwelcoming and very unpleasant. I asked questions and got one word answers or just was told we don't have that, rather than telling me what type of milk you do have. She appeared very irritated and spoke in an unwelcoming tone that almost made me tell my dad let's go elsewhere. Apparently she was training another barista. I observed her talking down to the trainee as well. Just unprofessional and miserable. Customer Service is a must for me. If I give a smile, at least offer a hello in return. This barista stood there and barely acknowledged any of my questions. She should not be training anyone. Truly disappointed ! I honestly don’t want to write this review but the experience I just went through felt hurtful. I’ve been a frequent customer for over a year as I live up the street. Usually when I come in I do order and buy drinks/food. On this particular day I decided not to buy anything because I just wanted to work with no caffeine and I already ate prior. The barista comes up to me and asked if I was gonna purchase something. I said no then she proceeds to tell me that if i’m not purchasing anything, I cant work here ( she was nice about it)I looked at the manager like if she was serious but she just acted like she didnt care. And I told the barista I come here all the time. It’s just disappointing. (Literally came in yesterday and bought coffee) I even bring my friends to order, I tip always and I’m nice to the baristas. What I don’t understand is why a regular customer can’t come in and work without buying anything. I truly wasn’t expecting this and I will not be coming back nor telling my friends too either. My family and I love coming to Arterial to work, study, or just spend some QT together. The pastries are always fresh and tasty. The customer service is wonderful. The owners always strike a conversation and go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need. It’s always nice to be greeted by name by the staff. It’s always very clean and tidy. Even the restrooms. This has been our go to spot ever since we discovered it. Customers are diverse and respectful of the space of others. The noise is a comfortable level always. You can study here and you don’t have to be very silent. My only complaint is that the coffee isn’t great. I’m sure it will get better, but I’m not a fan of La Colombe and tend to just come in with my own coffee. I’m excited for them to offer a different variety of coffee in the future 🤞🏾🤞🏾 Because then it would be even more perfect! The drip coffee is fine. The food is also very tasty here and fresh.
