Read moreA most wonderful labyrinth of books to get lost in for hours and hours.... . I went there with my friend. None of us live in Philly, and we drove down to visit this place (from MD and DE!) and it was so worth it! The building is beautiful, very old and Victorian. Everything about the place is vintage and homey. The lady bookseller was beyond nice, she helped us find the genres we were looking for and we got lost among the shelves for hours. This is one of those places where there are books EVERYWHERE. On the floor, in stacks up to the ceiling, on the shelves, literally on any surface...and of course there are categories that you can browse, but there are hidden gems here and there. Like I found amazing biographies of Emile Zola (that I did not know existed) and Jack Kerouac under the cash register counter! The prices were amazing, the selections exquisite. I am not sure but I think I detect a focus on female authors! I just wish I lived closer by. Altogether, could not...
Read moreWhat a cozy, well kept bookstore! I was able to score (from their well built collection) books that I hadn’t been able to find at other bookstores, (Joan Nestle’s work, among others!) and got a chance to chat with the very helpful & kind owner, Debbie. As with most bookstores that build collections vs. buying new straight from the publishers, I was worried about dust, but this bookstore is like no other. Fresh air streams in from every window, and the shelves are so well organized that no dust stays put (asthmatics welcome!). The owners know where to find any book, no small feat with the glamorous stacks you encounter when you enter. There really is something for everyone- the women’s studies section alone is an impressive selection. It’s a cozy, well kept spot. Also, the only place that has me leaving a long, raving review for. Many more years of this...
