Hummus Grill — Restaurant in Philadelphia

Do you like rotten meat? If yes, that's a place for you! 3 days ago (Tuesday 05/30/18) I stopped by Hummus to buy chicken shawarma sandwich. I've been there before several times, cannot say that people were very friendly, they were ok, but food was pretty good. I bought a take away as I did before, came home, opened the paper wrap, and noticed a strange smell. I did several bites, and OMG!! the chicken inside the shawarma was so rotten and smelled like a rat's dead body!!! There were several huge pieces of completely rotten chicken, even the color was dark!!! Insane!! I have never seen anything like that in my life! I put the meat and shawarma in a baggie in a fridge to save it till my husband comes home, to show him (just in case I am going crazy). He almost threw up when he smelled it. I still have the meat and the receipt, if Hummus would like to contact me and give me my money back (Don't think they give a damn, if they allow things LIKE THAT to happen). Obviously, I will never go there again, will tell everybody I know about how dangerous it is to eat there, and create accounts on several review websites, just to prevent people from poisoning. Ravishing customer service & delicious food. The cashier/manager or who ever she is was awesome. I had A very long day & was too tired to read the menu but the way she described everything & showed me the vegetarian options with A genuine smile on her face instead of irritation was greatly appreciated, mind you it was about 10mins to closing yet she/they still treated me like it was the beginning of the day. Most places I just know not to go in there the last ten minutes lol. And they give A terrific amount of food so it's most definitely worth it!!!!

I'm honestly one of those ppl who judge places based on how many negative/positive reviews they get. I read one review in particular that almost had me thinking I should choose somewhere else because I can't stand terrible customer service but I'm so glad I didn't. I mean the customer service was GREAT, countless vegetarian options & The cook gave me A sample of the fried eggplant when I asked & he was ever so polite to me as well. I've found A new fav spot at the Hummus...

The regular working African woman at the counter is very particular in how she takes your order. She really strives to get it right, and never have I been disappointed, when my food comes out. Food is always good, the lamb , and salmon are my go to. I love ethnic foods, and Middle Eastern is one of my favorites. There salads are delicious , always with fresh salad greens. There hummus has a good consistency, but not a consistent taste, as it can be oversalted sometimes. Why not put in a standard minimal amount, of salt in your recipe ? It is easier for customers to add more salt if desired; but once oversalted, it's impossible to undo. If the weather is not inclement, you can sit outside at their sidewalk tables to eat. I prefer year round, the laid back , low key environment of eating inside, and escaping all the city noise coming from the busy Walnut Street. Am not much of an alfresco diner, in noisy locations.
