Oh boy, where do I even begin? Let me clarify that I have been a Harmon Park enjoyer for almost 10 years. The Library is the biggest highlight. They offer programs for kids, free books and movies that you can check out without spending a penny. The schedule is consistently fair to the public. The entire park is always clean. The recreational gym is also a highlight offering an experience close to an NBA basketball court. They also have a free weight room, everything is quality except the treadmill which is broken. They also have an Air Hockey table that they have not fixed in 5 years (and I'm still counting). Unfortunately, they close early. The new manager decided to close the gym at 6:30pm instead of 7pm. Realistically, it should be closing at 8pm like other parks do. Did I forget to mention they use to close at 10pm? Now on the park itself, the lights at night have not been working for almost 2 years as you can't practically see anything. This can be really dangerous since there are already many homeless people around but they mostly sleep. The basketball courts outside (which were reconstructed in 2017 by Steve Colter and the NCAA) do not match the quality of the gym in terms of rim height and implementation of the NBA line. Initially, it also use to have a net but they replaced it with chains. Back then, when the outside court had an overhaul, you could not take your eyes off the smooth paintjob they accomplished. Now today in late 2022, the issues vissually look prevalent. The bathrooms and the tennis courts were locked for many years. The park also have a softball, baseball, and a large grass field which gets the job done for people to set up their events. The Pool is also a highlight but opens in the summers only. It does not have a diving board yet has 10ft of deep water to dive on. In case you ever get injured severely, there is a hospital near this park down the street. This place can get shadier in the night, but now its a 50/50 when it comes to safety due to the lights being turned off, which I will mention has not been an issue before. The playground went from average to dull. The playground use to have an interactive treehouse design with a sand surface. Now it's simply just extremely safe and does have wood chips as the surface. However, there are still some things to do in the playground. Overall, this community park does have the potential to become the best attraction it could ever be in Phoenix Arizona. It is a historical landmark in Arizona as it was built during the Great Depression. Andrew Colter and Steve Colter who were managers of the park really brought life to the park as a childhood staple for kids to hang out after school. I will always love this park and wish it could improve despite it's strengths. There a simply too much VISIBLE weaknesses overSHADOWING the place. I expect the manager to find a plan to eventually revamp some of the things I mentioned, as I want the future generation to experience this lovely gem of a park. Read moreHarmon Park is a beautiful urban park in the Central City South Village. For a park that was established around 1927 (which is old for Phoenix), this place is well maintained and there are a number of great amenities. I especially love the connection with the modern city library, the new basketball court, and the remodeled community gardens. This is certainly a point of pride for...
