If you've never been to Uptown Barber Shop before, here's what you need to know. Every barber here is fantastic. If this review is now old I still feel confident that the barbers will be great because the owner has high standards and enforces them. The barber shop itself has a great atmosphere that welcomes anybody. TV's line the wall and typically have ESPN and the news on. Not loud, just something to watch and talk about while you're there. They give the full treatment at Uptown. I'm bearded, so I get my haircut and beard trim there. They do straight razor shaves and line-ups here. If you don't feel comfortable with that they have electric as well. No problem. Then you'll get the hot towel on your face (feels great and good for the skin) and finish with shoulder/neck massage. The real deal class-act barber shop. It's absolutely affordable (for my beard trim and haircut it's around $30 including a good tip) so you'll be able to enjoy this service as a weekly routine. The barbers here are hired first and foremost based on skill. There may be a couple guys who speak English as a second language, and if you find that there is a bit of a language barrier just ask Rony if he knows what you mean. He'll take the cue and assist in describing. Everybody there wants happy customers so don't hold your tongue if there's something you want to say. Uptown Barber Shop will treat you right every time, so when you go in establish a relationship as if you plan on being there weekly. They'll remember you and be waiting ;) They do take walk-ins but sometimes it can be busy so it doesn't hurt to call ahead and put something in the books. If you do have to wait for a little bit Zipps Sports Bar and Grill is in the same plaza and Starbucks is right across the...
Read moreHaircuts have always been like Vegas for me. I dread going, get told by other people that it's gonna be great, and then leave disappointed with less than when I showed up. That was until today when Russ gave me a cut.
The shop is clean and inviting. Do I love lime green walls? No. Does it work on this barbershop? Somehow yes. I was greeted upon entering, checked in on the iPad, and grabbed a seat. I watched as the barbers clipped and trimmed and evaluated with the ease and elegance of a swan drifting on placid waters. I am not one to splurge on beard trims typically (both for fear of a Sweeny Todd situation or a Jim Carey Baby Grinch situation), but the precision and care that the team showed looked more like a surgeon group than a band of barbers, so I was sold.
After waiting about 10 minutes, Russ called me up, shook my hand, and guided me over to the chair. After getting an idea as to what I was looking for, he dove in. As I watch the trimmings cascading to the floor, I watched my mane go from Tom Hanks Castaway to Tom Hanks Sleepless in Seattle. While I'm not one to brag, I'm looking sharp. Oh yeah and the beard, I can most certainly say it was worth the $12. I don't think it's fair to draw comparisons to Leonidas, but think Leonidas.
Russ was easy to talk to and a regular Michelangelo with a set of clippers. If you're looking for a haircut, go wherever you want, but if you are looking to be transformed into a hunk of man, worthy of being chiseled into marble, worthy of being painted onto the ceilings of cathedrals, worthy of stories told in leather bound books and housed on mahogany shelving, then this...
Read moreI've been going to Uptown Barbershop for 3 years now and have had nothing but wonderful experiences until today. I went in today to get a haircut before my dad's wedding and Roman was my barber. I told him what I wanted and he got to work. During my cut, a customer came in that did not have an appointment and Roman decided to help the customer. Even with a fully booked schedule, Roman said he would take care of him right after me. After 5 minutes, he comes back to me and spends another 30 seconds before he spun me around and showed me my "finished" cut without even bothering to blow any of the hair off my face. This has been a terrible experience for me and if I had not been going here for years, I would not return. Roman will no longer have my business as he seems to be focused on quantity.
When I got home, I found out that my cousin also got a haircut and beard trim from Roman earlier in the day. His experience was even worse than mine and actually told him to stop as his beard was so uneven and could also see the lines from the different sized guards. My cousin called up their sister store, Beard Smith and Barber, and ended waiting for a barber to fix Roman's work.
Needless to say, be wary of Roman and his quantity cuts, not quality cuts. I will get cut by any other barber there, just not...
