This park and pond are such an awesome place for me to come and unwind. Even though there is the occasional interrupting train horn blown to alert bozos who stop on the train tracks once in a while, other than that it is very peaceful and serene. Also while you can't eat the fish caught in this lake, there is pretty good fishing. I used to bring my girlfriend here at night and we'd catch cat fish for hours. Unfortunately though, Harris Steel over the years has polluted the ground thereby letting nasty chemicals leech into the soil and subsequently the fish. They do have plenty of signs posted everywhere though, DO NOT EAT ANY FISH CAUGHT HERE! IF anyone does read this too, please if your walking the great little path Piscataway Township put around the lake, while walking don't be afraid to pick up trash you see. It's a sad state of affairs the youth of today so carelessly litter everywhere and everyday with no reespect or concern. If even 2 ppl did this along with me daily, the whole park would sparkle. Mainly it's the stretch closets to the Gazebo by the boat launch. Being so close to the road anything flung out Simoes window can potentially end up on the park grounds. Anyway, I highly recomend this park though for anyone looking to do a nice picnic. Go down by the waterfall or overflow Damn. The town really takes pride in that area and the landscaping is sharp....
Read morePiscataway, with funding assistance from the U.S. government in 2016, has really developed this area of Columbus Park (same name as other public areas about the pond) beautifully with rain shelter/gazebos, and well landscaped grounds at the western end of New Market Pond. There is ample parking. This is a good meeting point with nice views of the pond, the fountains, the man-made waterfall/spillway at the western end, and the geese, ducks, and egrets which can be seen regularly practicing take offs, water landings, and ice walking in winter. Photographers also have numerous opportunities under the big sky and over the water. For athletic activities, head over to Columbus Park's 200 11th street courts, fields, playground, and picnic area...now available since 2016. All of Columbus Park is open daily "from dawn to...
Read moreThis is a beautiful and serene place to come unwind and enjoy nature in the suburbs. The park has four different access to points to enjoy the beautiful waterview. The cherry blossom trees, native plants, shrubs, animals and insects add to the beauty of this park. In my opinion, the best times to enjoy the park's peace, serenity and beauty are on a weekday afternoon and evenings while most are at work. The park has a lot of signage throughout that provides you with an education about the history of the park. The spillway affords a breath taking view, sound, and feel...
