If I could give a separate rating for the shows as opposed to staff I would. Daryl (General Manager) at the pitman theatre took me by surprise today while my mother was on the phone. Evidently an incident had occurred last week when there was a Grease showing that my mother, grandmother and her friends went to see the show. They wanted to exchange their tickets from another week for the same show after my grandmother had broken her ankle and couldn’t make their original showing. UNFORTUNATELY the show was sold out. Which is no one’s fault. They were trying to figure out what to do/if they could get extra tickets for the upcoming little mermaid or something so it wouldn’t be a total loss. Anyway- She spoke to someone very kind at martinis who tried to help put her in contact with someone such as the manager. Well. I have NEVER taken my mothers phone from her the way I did. Daryl the manager was unkind from the get go and when she was explaining the issue and how she’s never read the newsletter he instantly responded with “and that’s not my problem.” I had enough at that point. I took her phone from her hand to tell him that in no way shape or form should he speak to anyone like that. Explaining that I didn’t even have anything to get or do from the situation and was appalled by his behavior. He interrupted me as I was speaking and when I attempted to speak my point regardless he said “let me finish let me finish” practically yelling as if I was not the one speaking first. The situation was handled inappropriately. Even if there was nothing to be done you simply do not speak to customers like that. I hope the phone call was recorded. As a performer, a season ticket holder 3 years in a row and someone who has sent people to this theatre I cannot let this fly without saying something. So if any of you have to deal with general manager Daryl in the future for any problem I apologize. Unless he was just having a bad day today- he has no business handling any sort of business whatsoever in customer service for...
Read moreThe Broadway, now under the direction of vocalist, playwright, and actor extraordinaire John D. Smitherman, is a gem tucked away in the charming town of Pitman. More and more people are learning that the shows there, especially the musical productions and concerts, are phenomenal. Mr. Smitherman apparently has a LOT of gifted friends in show business and he's bringing them in, left and right. I attended the recent concert by four leading men (and a woman, who added charm, humor, and a gorgeous voice) and I was wowed by all of their voices, overall performances, and the cleverness and fun of the show. One of the vocalists in that "leading men" show at the Broadway was Jeff Coon, well-known and beloved star of many a play at Philly's Walnut Street Theatre and many other theatres. I'm one of his many fans and when I saw ahead of time that he'd be performing at the Broadway, I bought tickets for two of the three performances and would have bought tickets for the third except that I had another event to attend that night! One audience member told me afterwards that this was the best concert she'd ever attended, anywhere! It was definitely one of my all-time favorites. Thank you, John, for making a great theatre even greater and I look forward to many future shows of all types at the Broadway. Have already bought tickets for six upcoming shows. P.S. Pitman has a lot of excellent restaurants, so it's a good idea to have a meal at one of them before or after the show. Parking on the street is at a premium, so arrive early to get a space that's not five blocks from the theatre! And be sure not to park illegally, as the Pitman police are zealous...
Read moreMy wife and I had an adventure at the Broadway Theater of Pitman! We were given tickets to see a classic rock cover band called the Hit Men. It’s probably something we would not have done our own so we’re glad we had the opportunity to go. This historic movie and vaudeville theater opened in 1926 and has been played by many famous singers, comics, and magicians over the years such as Bing Crosby, Abbott & Costello, and Harry Blackstone Sr. The theater was refurbished and reopened in 2007 and has revitalized Pitman with its plays, concerts, movies, and other events. As soon as you walk up to the entrance you feel like you’ve gone back in time. The ticket booth, the concession stand, and the lobby are all vintage. To our pleasant surprise, they serve alcohol. I got a Bonesaw IPA and my wife got a stateside vodka seltzer. The theater is marvelous with its overall esthetic, chandeliers, balcony, and 8 seating boxes. The highlight of our adventure was actually the intermission because we got to mingle with the local crowd, get more drinks, and saw two men get into a fight! After the excitement, the show resumed and the entire evening was entertaining. We will definitely go back and check out Martinis on Broadway, the attached restaurant and bar. The Broadway Theater of Pitman is a great place to see a show and experience a living piece of...
