I am an Indian visiting USA at regular intervals and each time, I visit, my most preferred place is a public library. During my last two visits in 2008 and 2011, I made extensive use of Iselin and Woodbridge Public Libraries where I was encouraged to make a gift of some of the books authored by me besides relishing a large number of publications (of course through the library membership of my daughter Dr. Anshumita Cabra). I have a deep adoration for the US Public Libraries.
I enjoyed reading about the Plainsboro Library in the June 27 issue of WWP News. I have visited this library already a couple of times. A smaller but well laid out and efficiently managed library with various readership services. My association remains through my daughter and son-in-law. I am happy to learn that this unit is celebrating its Golden Jubilee rising to a fine center of refinement from its humble beginning as "a four-woman best-seller book swap". Great missions always flourish and I hope this library shall become a landmark of the county area. The experience of asking for books that are not physically available in the library (many aren't that I would like to read) has not been disappointing! I must admit that I felt it was my happy duty to record my appreciation for the library after reading your report in THE NEWS.

Read moreOne female librarian on the second floor is so so so rude!!! My son is so interested in the science non-fiction. We went to the second floor. He checked but he didn’t see the category for space. I encouraged my son to ask for help by himself. He asked the librarian “Hi, is there any books about Space. Yes or no?” The librarian suddenly yelled “You are so rude, you can’t just ask others yes or no! I will not answer your questions if you say something like this. Are you living in Plainsboro?Blah, blah, blah...” My son was so scared! He just asked one question. How can a librarian say this to a kid? You try to teach a six years old kid to be more polite but do you even know how to say something politely? My son is a polite boy! Sometimes I will teach him how to speak to others, but I think it’s normal for a kid. I have never heard any complaints from his teacher. He is very kind to others. And also, everyone we know loves him! This is the first time someone said these to him. I can tell he was hurt, because he was very quiet on our way home. I like the environment and the librarians on the other floors. However, this librarian is the worst one I have...
Read moreFirstly - really beautiful library. Lovely light and airy modern interior; tons of study spaces and well-designed spaces. Want to specifically shout out the staff that helped me today at the passport services desk. Passport renewal is not a historically fun process but the employee was knowledgeable, clear, and kind — you can even take photos here too! (FedEx photos were too blue, and CVS was too low res.) everyone else I’ve ever dealt with in the process of getting a new passport has been harried and rushed — fair enough! but it was really nice to sit down with someone who would take the time to explain things throughly and clearly. Small touches matter - they had all of the forms available, and though you can only pay by check, they make it very clear exactly how to fill out those checks. All in all - a very pleasant experience. I love libraries, and this free public service is another reason why these institutions are so valuable in our communities...
