I’m reviewing to communicate the last two experiences I’ve had at Pulse in August 2023. I emailed the gym and Liz replied with a less than caring response of “we hope to see you soon” without acknowledging my concerns or care for the poor experiences I had. Liz was also the point of contact while I was in the building both times in learning that the classes were canceled without notice.
On 8.16 I had a reserved class for Pilates Reformer for 7pm. I was notified at the time of my arrival (6:45pm) that the class was cancelled as I was the only person who had booked the class. I did not receive a text. The email that I then found in my inbox was time stamped for 6:40pm.
That’s 5 minutes prior to the time of check in of the class.
I was helped in rebooking for another class at the desk and while I was disappointed, I had accepted the cancellation as a lack of communication and was hopeful for a better outcome in the future. Although the instructor was already in the building finishing class with a group prior to my reserved class - this could’ve been an opportunity to connect with me personally or provide me with an exceptional experience of 1:1 work, while not expected it would’ve really left a stellar impression.
I had signed up for the trial member (unsure what it’s called) and this would’ve been my 5th and final class. I was considering becoming an ongoing monthly member as the location is near my business in Ferndale and home.
On August 28th, I arrived at 7:00pm for my 7:15 Pilates class (that I had booked with the help of the desk staff at the last time when my previous class was canceled on me) and was greeted at the desk by the same person who had stepped in to help me about 10 days ago. She said the class was canceled for some reason (the instructors work hours or a conflict) but then shared it was because I was 1 of 2 people who had reserved and the gyms policy is to cancel. I did not receive an email, call or text to communicate the situation.
I expressed my disappointment and legitimate concerns that while the gym would penalize me if I canceled with 5 minutes notice (or no notice as in my case tonight), there is little recourse for me, the guest, in the event of a cancellation.
My email address and number are correct in the profile on MINDBODY. While I may not have been opted into texts prior to 8.16 I am currently and still did not receive a text.
This was an opportunity to build a relationship with a new member and I feel it’s important to share my thoughts and experience because I know how important honest client engagement and feedback are to independent businesses building their reputations in communities.
I’m disappointed and frustrated. When I emailed, Liz, who read my email replied with very little regard and said something to the effect that, “we hope to see you soon” without acknowledging the two separate incidents where I didn’t receive the services I paid for.
I was hopeful to enjoy this gym with its location and flexible class times but if the classes I want are canceled regularly it doesn’t really meet the...
Read more*Update: The dog is being put down. I have learned that the dog has a history of another more severe bite. Shame on you Scott Genord for getting your dog killed. Your irresponsible behavior as a dog owner got your dog killed. Nobody wants an innocent dog to be put down. I did not want the dog to suffer. I hope you learn from this experience, so that you do not harm others and protect the things you care about (your dog I hope).
Avoid this gym and scott genord. He is okay with his pitbull biting patrons. He will let a dog with a history of biting loose in the gym.
Scott Genord, the gym owner, prioritizes his dog over people's safety. He allows his unleashed pitbull to freely roam in the gym, resulting in a severe dog bite that caused a laceration and bleeding through my pants. At first, he tried downplaying the significance of a dog bite. When I requested him to leash the dog or keep it in a separate room during the class, he refused and told me I could leave instead. I confronted him about prioritizing his dog over the safety of his clients, and he openly admitted to doing so, even telling me to leave. I have taken legal action against him, but it appears that he has filed for bankruptcy. I am...
Read moreIncredibly disappointed. From the area but moved away for work, have followed Pulse throughout the years and was looking forward to joining when I moved back home. Joined for 2 months and cancelled. If you go while there’s a class, don’t bother bringing headphones. If you join and only use the open gym, they’ll treat you as such. Classes are what they care about and if you aren’t drinking the kool aid you will feel unwelcome.
I was working out on their turf section, no class going on, one of their trainers came into the back room and turned his music on the loudspeaker and audibly laughed as I took my headphones out because I couldn’t hear.
We were told a sauna was being put in. If it’s anything like the bathrooms, don’t go in it. Fruit flies all over the bathroom.
Lastly, why would you put the cardio machines in the hottest part of the building? Upstairs in the corner?
All in all, the least welcoming gym I’ve ever been a part of. Would not...
