We visited just after opening on a Sunday morning, place is small and tight but clean. Greeted at the door by a Hostess and ushered to a table to her immediate right, third table from entrance at window. Waitress was very energetic and cheerful, being our second visit we took the time to study the menu before ordering. The spouse ordered a skillet dish with eggs over easy and I selected a breakfast dish with eggs Sunny-side Up, requesting the top not runny and no crispy edges. My spouse's dish arrived very nicely done, eggs looked perfect. My dish was a disappointment as the eggs were the exact opposite as requested. I told the waitress I could not eat them as prepared and pointed out the condition, so she took my plate back to the cook. I could hear the exchange between the two about the eggs, then the owner chimed in and brought my plate back to my table and demanded my explanation about what was wrong with this now well traveled plate. I once again pointed out what is verses what I asked for and he began to put the confusion on my failure to be clear and started marching my plate back to the cook, as I was speaking to him. I told him that I would just change my request to over easy and be done, but he began to have a loud exchange with the cook, so I shouted back to them that if it was to much of a challenge that I did not need the meal at all. The Owner came back to my table to validate his efforts to be clear about my issue with the eggs and I expressed that I can cook eggs if they needed some direction. My plate was returned 10 minutes later by the owner, same sides and eggs still not correct, Bottoms over cooked and crispy, top still with clear runny whites. The Owner challenged if this was good and I replied no but marginally better and he walked off. Cold and still not correct my breakfast experience was ruined as was my wife's. who was trying to hold off while my meal was being poorly managed. At the end our waitress removed the 2 coffees from the bill, 20 dollars the balance. I gave a 4 dollar tip and my wife boxed her plate which is still sitting in the fridge 2 days later and will be tossed soon. The point is, don't order eggs sunny side up because it is beyond the skills to create or understand by both staff and management, and if they get it wrong, it's your fault and on your tab. We are still very surprised and disappointed.
Well it's been a year now and I see in the photos of prepared dishes that they appear to have improved on eggs other than scrambled. I hope the attitudes are additionally...
Read moreAfter going to the Whistle Stop in Pleasant Ridge for about 5-7 years, I have been experiencing inefficient service. After asking if I could substitute some items due to Lent Season season I asked questions about items on the menu. She wasn't familiar with items on the menu for vegetarians. I guess the waiter got frustrated and by the look on her face my girlfriend asked her "are you all right?" I told another waiter our waiter is sick and she helped her walk to the back of the restaurant. She was back on the floor taking orders 5 minutes or less. When she came back she started helping several other guests and didn't come back to our table until a while after she noticed I was looking at her. I told my girlfriend she was faking being sick. By that time I asked a different waiter if they could take our order. She was nice and said yes of course but she wasn't familiar with Vegetarian items on the menu either. But then after a while the first waiter came back to our table and gave us our food which I did not want her to come back to our table. When she came back, my girlfriend asked for butter. The waiter empty the two pieces of remaining butter left in the bowl onto the table. I asked her "what are you doing?" She said I'm getting more butter. I said but why did you empty the two pieces of butter onto the table and she walked away. I couldn't believe she did that! It was as if she said "Screw y'all". I don't know if it was because we're African American or that was her personality. My girlfriend said "We're not coming back here again"! I said you got that right! Due to the service we received, we did not leave a tip.

Love the many options on the menu! Not your everyday breakfast and lunch food. Good and...
Read moreVery disappointed with this restaurant. The last time I was there, our waitress served us our food last even though we were the first ones seated in her section. She offered no explanation to the delay but after close to an hour if waiting for our food and we confronted her, we received a poor excuse (blamed the back up in the kitchen). Yesterday I ate at the Whistle Stop again and had another very bad experience. I had a special order omelet while my friend I ate with ordered something similar. My omelet came and I began eating. I soon noticed that my omelet was not prepared as I had ordered it. I brought it to the waitress' attention and she said she would have another one made as per my original request. Much time passed before the "new" omelet arrived (which was made correctly but sadly not with three egg whites {much less} than is described on the menu). My friend waited for my corrected omelet to arrive so his food also became cold. I ate the "new" omelet which was brought as it had now been almost an hour since we were first seated and I have health issues and needed to eat. I was not satisfied with the omelet but I had to eat. Then the waitress (Ava) brought my bill. I told her I thought she should comp my omelet as they kitchen did not prepare it properly and i had to wait so long. I got at first a $3 discount (don't know how she came to that) and I asked for the manager whom she said was not there. Eventually a young woman came and "comped" my omelet. In short I will never return and have already informed all of my friends who dine there not to return. Your staff should be...
