REVIEW FOR SWIMMERS. This is the only reason I have used the facility over the years. It is the only decent aquatic facility open to the public and fit for practice in approximately 10 square mile radius. 25 yards across. Swimming is parallel to deep end. 8-10 lanes. Feels neither fast nor slow. PROS: Clean and spacious locker room with private showers. Lanes wide enough to split for 2 if not doing circular swim. Decent working hours. You do not have to buy annual membership; can pay per visit. CONS: Pricing. There is no membership for just the aquatics part; you have to become member of entire facility. $800/year or so. Could be somewhat cheaper if you are Plymouth Township resident. If you are paying as-you-go: $15/pool day on weekends, $18/pool day weekdays. Lane availability: This is my primary issue with the facility. If you are a working professional with set hours or like early AM workouts you might as well forget trying to show up here at opening and at least until 10:00am. Weekends are significantly worse; 8a-10a do not even drive over. To have a chance at getting a lane you have to camp outside main doors about 30 minutes ahead of opening with your suit already on you ready to run through the locker room into pool area. The worst part is that at least 50% of those participating are either floating around or water jogging in lanes. There is no enforceable policy in place to reserve lanes for actual swimmers. Splitting lanes is something you have to either force on someone or hope they volunteer. Even with that, splitting with a floater or jogger to do timed sets is...
Read moreThe pool is elaborate and fun, especially for parties, but I had a bad experience with staff. I can't comment on all staff, but one in particular made my son and I feel so embarrassed and ashamed about an honest mistake. She spoke to us so angrily it made my son really concerned about what we did wrong. I won't go into the whole story, but here's my impression - the family changing rooms were COLD when we were there. There are very few changing rooms so if you are there for a party & have a child of the opposite gender (even if the child is three or four) you cannot use the regular locker rooms (this is where the staff member got angry at us) so be prepared to wait in a long line standing in the COLD while other parents struggle to change their children.
I have not had a party there, but after observing some others we've attended, the party staff seems young and inexperienced and the help you receive depends upon the initiative of the teenagers you receive. I had considered joining, but after the staff person spoke to me in that way, there was no way! To me it says either the staff need some customer service training, the management needs to treat their staff better, or staff is dealing with obnoxious people who treat them that way and they need some training in dealing with that type of person. My final impression - cool place, but way too expensive to take abuse...
Read moreGreater Plymouth Community Center is one of my favorite places to go. They have a beautiful gym area with a indoor pool and they do accept Silver Sneakers. You must have a physical prior to joining the gym. They have a exercise and weight room, sauna's and a children's and adults pool. Plus a large locker room for men and women. They also have different events held there This place is very clean and the grounds are also well kept. They always have someone located at the main desk to help out anyone coming into the center. Plus plenty of free parking in the huge lot. You can enter and exit the property with no problems. Children are also welcome but must be accompanied by a adult. The people here are friendly including all staff members. That's why I enjoy coming...
